But a multi-page site with videos of the head office, talking heads, day in the life stories etc. will bring the organisation to life for candidates.

Something I’ve always tried to do is provide a ‘warts and all’ description to candidates engaged in the recruitment process. It is easy to gloss over the challenges in pursuit of filling the vacancy, but many of us have embarked on new opportunities only to realise the reality is quite different from our expectations. You are not being disloyal to your organisation by sharing the challenges, after all, it takes strong people to come in and make positive change and this is ultimately what you need.

Keeping the communication line open between you and your prospective hires is extremely important as this can even help with future work relationship. The way every candidate is treated during the hiring process leaves an indelible impression on them.

One thing that have worked for me when it comes to optimizing my hiring process is; defining my talent acquisition strategy from the get-go. A clearly stated strategy and TA process flowchart keeps you focused and keeps your team informed. It is good to communicate regularly with candidates but when engaging passive candidates, that is not enough, besides you don’t want to impose on their time; to make optimal use of this; clearly communicate the interview process and stages to them from the onset of your engagement. Finally, in addition to all the practical tips here; judiciously use every recruitment exercise as a means to project your Employer’s Value Proposition. This comes in handy for building your talent pipeline

Skill based assessments and competency models can allow holistic view of candidates.e.g STAR approach,Situational judgement tests, assignments or job trials. Use generative AI like ChatGPT to craft clear and compelling job posts and communications with candidates Build internal employees talen. Brand existing employees and employe, Develop hiring process to keep retention and foster positive employee experience in mind.

I can't emphasize the importance of candidate experience enough. Close communication, feedback, being transparent with what your candidates should expect in the role is key and also, advantageous when you reach the offer stages. You essentially become a broker when reaching the end stages and more often that not, a personalised and supportive approach leaves a huge impression and impact on your potential hire and will almost always lead to a positive result and even contribute to retention!

CLC (now Gartner) put out a great roadmap to becoming Strategic TA Advisor. They detailed the path from Process Expert to Pipeline Manager to Strategic Advisor. They outline competencies needed at each level including Business Acumen (at the function level, the company level as well as on a general level), influencing skills which involves the use of market data and analytics and many more. Great tool that I use to this day.
