It's important to appreciate whether the 'failures' are systemic, personal contribution or industry 'known' pitfalls. The environment we find ourselves in can often contribute to the success or 'failure' (I hate that word) we experience. Be honest with yourself, and address the gaps you find in your knowledge, experience and processes you use. Having the resilience to ask for and act upon feedback is one of the most empowering things we can do, and leads to continuous improvement.

Failure is going to be a part of any journey. It is how you handle failure that determines how you succeed. Just remember, when one door closes, another opens.

Without failure, where is there room to grow? I understand those might have "more talent", but in reality the strongest and best outcomes usual come right after a failure. It may be embarrassing for some time- have a negative thought- but its how you take ownership of that failure, have an action plan ready to fix/redo/resolve and implement. It is always better to fail forward. That means you are at least trying to move in right direction. It may just be time to tweak the plan, seek advice from your boss, mentors and connections. They were once early careerists with large goals, and not every single plan went exactly how they wanted to. Be humble, recognize what happened, seek the right course of action, and continue to push forward.

One of the most eye-opening ways I have been able to improve my effectiveness as a leader is to seek feedback from the biggest critics. When supporting and leading projects, I seek feedback from the most resistant participants/end-users. This helps me identify barriers early on and allows me to find solutions during the development phase. When working to identify my professional growth areas that need focus and improvement, I have found value in listening to those that struggle with me as their leader/coworker. This is a bit more difficult because you have to sift through the emotions and personal criticism to find nuggets of usefulness feedback that are actionable.

One thing I think about is that almost every person in “top” positions wants another job 🤣 They most likely “failed” at the job they wanted, and are in their current role figuring out (like the rest of us!) how to get to their next spot.
