What are the best ways to improve your broadcast delivery?

Know who you're talking to. If it's a laid back, casual audience you can loosen up a bit. If it's mostly C-suite types you may want to be more formal.

The first principle in broadcasting is to understand whom you are speaking to, how you speak to them, and what you speak to them. If you get that wrong, you are likely to be everywhere, trying to impress all audiences. If you don't know your identity, you will waste money by investing in the wrong resources, such as wrong content and wrong talent.

When we launched a new service in East Africa, we started like many others with a plethora of international content, however, we were quick to realize something was wrong. We had to ask ourselves the hard question... What were we doing wrong? We seemingly had the "right content", but the numbers were saying something else. We quickly carried out some research and discovered, that much of the content was not resonating with the audience. We quickly changed strategy to a mix of international and local content with a greater bias towards local. As a broadcast manager, one of the cardinal rules is... You are not necessarily the target audience, which means you might not like it, but you must give your audience what they want.

Three simple steps : 1. Know your content extensively. 2. Know your target audience's preferences. 3. Be confident in the way that you speak. Use good body language.

One of the key things I tell my presenters is that preparations through research and dry runs for any show, whether recorded or live, will make you perfect on set. Secondly, research is crucial. You MUST know that the audience you are speaking to consists of two different groups: those getting to know for the first time, meaning you are educating them, and those who already know. You cannot take your audience for granted. Always take an interest in all topics brought to you. When it comes to producers, research and thinking outside the ordinary to deliver work is what makes you an excellent producer. Imagine what goes through movie producers' minds just to achieve a wow factor. YOU'RE AS GOOD AS YOUR LAST PROJECT

Presentation isn't only about what the producer has put together in terms of cutaways; it's also about how you deliver the content. Dress appropriately for the type of show and adopt the language and style suitable for the program.

Das kann man leicht zuhause üben. Oder man macht ein Sprechertraining. Noch schwieriger als frei überzeugend zu sprechen ist es, einen fertigen Text z.B.von einem Teleprompter so vorzutragen als wäre es frei gesprochen.

Hierfür bieten sich mehrere Dinge an: - lerne von den Besten (oder den Besseren): aufmerksam andere Speaker studieren, schauen was sie machen und wie sie sich bewegen. Dazu Notizen machen und das vor der eigenen Kamera nachmachen. Anschließend anschauen und mit den Notizen abgleichen. Das ganze wiederholen. - einer Theatergruppe beitreten. - ein Training buchen. Das ist noch effektiver, weil man im Dialog lernt.

In einer Produktion gleichzeitig zu sprechen, die Regie zu machen und die Technik zu bedienen ist I.d.R. nicht sinnvoll. Lieber mindestens einen versierten Kameramann, der auch Licht setzen kann hinzuziehen.

Das ist eigentlich, wie so vieles andere, selbstverständlich. Die eigenen Leistungen kann man nicht so objektiv betrachten, wie es andere machen.

Ich bin ein großer Freund von „PowerPoint-Karaoke“. Mit mehreren Kollegen sucht man sich gegenseitig unbekannte PowerPoint-Präsentationen im Internet und versucht, diese möglichst so vorzutragen als wäre es die eigene.
