How can you use communication skills to succeed in a career change?

In my opinion understanding your why and what is crucial during a career change. Having clarity on those two things can allow you to communicate clearly with your audience and or next employer. One way to gain clarity on your what is by understanding your strengths. If you are stuck on why to do next in your career. Text 10-15 of your closest friends, family, and colleagues and ask them what they think your good at and what they would pay you to do. You’ll see the common denominator soon enough!

Our career choices should always in line with our values and goals in life. For instance, if you are a creative person you must seek a career around Arts or anything that will harness your creative and artistic talents. Never push yourself to be a doctor if you are an Artist. Never push yourself to be a Lawyer if you have a scientific mind. Never be a pilot if you love horticulture/farming.

Researching and networking is a great way to get your feet wet when looking at switching a career or industry. Research Industry specific networking groups. Listen to podcasts on the specific industry Connect with individuals in the field and ask to hear there story on how they got started in the field. Both online and in person networking can go a long way.

Estou exatamente passando pelo processo de transição de carreira e realmente a comunicação é uma habilidade crucial. Na fase de pesquisa conversei com inúmeras pessoas das áreas pretendidas para conhecer melhor sobre aquela área. I would say Research and Network. This is because they are powerful tools when exploring career change. With Research you can find out the industry you are interested in, have a deep understanding of the industry or organization, understand their trends, opportunities that abound for you in there and challenges. Investigate potential employers in your field too, understand their company values, skills needed and hone yours with such information. Learn about their culture in the environment. Go for online courses, short offline courses and certification. Furthermore, networking can be essential. Start with social media platforms. For instance use your LinkedIn effectively. Optimize your profile to reflect your career change and the skills.

One helpful tip I share with my clients is to identify transferable skills mentioned in the new job's description and align them with their current work experiences. It requires to accept the fact that this is totally new and they need help of industry experts. Help can only be received if there is right attitude. Adapt to the industry aptitude. Learn the industry specific positive and negative jargons. Use your personal goodness in your communication and be open to criticism. Use the positive ones for your learning and never discard the negative ones.
