The primary points that come immediately to mind are the two principles of mandated reporting, and the minimum necessary rule. Although, I usually explain them in layman's terms. Mostly because in most settings here HIPPA is covered pretty extensively prior to even working in any behavioral health or related field. I also talk about setting boundaries early, including discussing the above mentioned concepts as part of that conversation. I also recommend the rule of thumb that I only share for the purpose of helping the person I am supporting. That applies to sharing my life experience as well as sharing theirs.
