Another important angle to succeeding as a vocal coach that most voice teachers overlook is learning to play the piano. I find that voice students tend to give you a high rating if you can show other aspects of your musicality, for example, playing the piano accompaniment of the exercises you give them or the practice song you want them to sing. I usually recommend that all voice teachers learn the basics of piano and guitar or one of them. I play both of them, but for voice training, piano is king! This is because you need very little effort to get to any note you want the student to vocalise. Moreso, your fingers won't hurt like what most teachers experience with the guitar and you will achieve your class goals faster.

Es crucial saber enseñar. Una cosa es dominar en tu instrumento en el canto o la voz hablada. Otra muy distinta: saber transmitir el conocimiento y acompañar al dominio de la técnica a alguien más. Tanto la pedagogía (enseñar a niños) como la andragogía (enseñar a adultos) son disciplinas básicas para lograr el aprendizaje de nuestros clientes. En mi experiencia, profundizar en la psicología y cognición han sido un diferenciador en el mercado. Un gran cantante u orador no necesariamente es un gran maestro; hay que formarse como facilitador de aprendizaje para que lo que sabemos pueda ser de provecho para más personas.

Build a Facebook group for singers you have taught. This will attract new students into the group. That way you have a community you can communicate directly to and share daily singing tip with. More important is the fact that you can get analytics to reveal where the majority of your students are located. This is a good information base for planning group classes and workshops.
