Sony’s New 360 Reality Tool Levels up Gaming Audio

Spatial audio in your headphones, for mobile and PC games

With the growing demand for more immersive gaming experiences, Sony’s tool could set a new benchmark for audio quality in the gaming industry.

Sony has taken a significant step in enhancing the audio experience for gamers with the launch of Gaming Virtualizer by 360 Reality Audio. Detailed in a press release on Monday, the new plug-in software is designed to help game developers create immersive spatial sound specifically for headphones, transforming how players experience game environments.

Integrating with Wwise, a widely-used audio middleware, the Gaming Virtualizer offers developers an efficient way to implement spatial sound without sacrificing performance. The technology delivers low-latency sound processing and provides a seamless experience for players by ensuring that game audio remains synchronized with on-screen action.

What sets the Gaming Virtualizer apart is its accessibility for developers across platforms. Whether for mobile or PC games, this software enables the creation of high-quality spatial sound without the need for complex or resource-heavy implementations. This could lead to more widespread adoption and innovation in the gaming space.

The innovation has already caught the attention of major game developers like COLOPL and Square Enix, who are validating the technology in their upcoming games. This indicates a strong industry interest in adopting spatial sound as a standard for future game releases.

"With the introduction of 'Gaming Virtualizer by 360 Reality Audio', the sense of positioning of the sound image has been improved, and changes in sound positioning can now be felt with less discomfort even when moving the viewpoint, etc.," said COLOPL Audio Programmer, Taiki Watanabe.
