Key iPhone 16 Specs & Features

The iPhone 16 lineup brings some notable upgrades in design and performance. The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are built with aerospace-grade aluminum for durability and come in a variety of colors including ultramarine, teal, pink, white, and black.

Both models are protected by a glass Ceramic Shield, with the iPhone 16 featuring a 6.1-inch screen and the iPhone 16 Plus a larger 6.7-inch display.

Action Button

The customizable action button lets you do things like record voice memos, translate text, identify songs, or set up app shortcuts, such as unlocking a car.

Camera Control Button

The new Camera Control button, which enables camera adjustments by sliding a finger across it, also supports access to Visual Intelligence, a new feature that recognizes objects in your surroundings. This button simplifies camera use—press to open the camera and take a photo, or hold it down to record a video.

A18 Chip

The iPhone 16 is powered by the A18 chip, which has a 6-core CPU that’s 30 percent faster than the previous iPhone, and a 16-core neural engine that is twice as fast at handling machine learning tasks.

iPhone CPU performance comparisons against other iPhone models.

Apple

Its new 5-core GPU offers a 40 percent improvement in graphics, which is useful for gaming. Apple has added a privacy feature called Private Cloud Compute, which keeps your data secure by processing requests locally without storing any data on Apple servers.

Apple Intelligence

Apple Intelligence brings new features like tools for rewriting text, adjusting the tone of messages, and proofreading.

The new Image Playground app lets you create images in seconds, and now you can create movies using AI, based on your photos and videos. Machine learning also helps by removing unwanted noise from videos, and the redesigned Photos app can automatically organize trips and events for you.

iOS 18

With iOS 18, you can send messages via satellite and now share live video with Emergency SOS. Siri has been updated to understand context better. Hundreds of new actions have been added, making tasks like updating contacts or sending photos easier by talking to Siri. A beta version of Apple Intelligence will be available in October; the feature is free.

iPhone 16 Pro Models

The Pro models, iPhone 16 Pro and Pro Max, feature the largest iPhone displays ever, with 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch screens. They have very thin bezels and a 120Hz refresh rate.

These models are made from Grade 5 titanium and come in four finishes: black, white, natural, and desert. The Pro Max model has the longest battery life of any iPhone to date.

The Pro models use the A18 Pro chip, offering faster performance than the standard iPhone 16, with a 15 percent faster CPU compared to the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 models.

The camera system includes a 48MP main camera, a 12MP telephoto camera, and a 12MP ultra-wide camera with autofocus. For video, the Pro models support 4K video recording at up to 120 fps, and spatial capture is available for use with the Vision Pro headset.

For audio, the Pro models include four studio-quality microphones, and they can record spatial audio for immersive sound playback. The new MagSafe charger supports faster charging and is available in one and two-meter lengths. These models are also compatible with Qi2 wireless chargers.
