The popular Disney World ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad closed recently and won’t reopen until 2026.
The attraction, located in Frontierland at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., closed to undergo refurbishments, according to the Disney blog WDW magic.
A Google search of the ride provided confirmation that the attraction is “temporarily closed.”
The ride will remain closed throughout the year, with Disney projecting that it will reopen sometime in 2026.
The last time the ride closed for a significant amount of time was in 2012, when the ride shuttered for four months to upgrade track and show elements.
In this refurbishment, the scale of the updates are larger, giving the attraction a full refresh and modernizing its elements.
The news follows Disney World’s recent plans to close several beloved rides permanently to make way for two new lands. These include all of the rides in DinoLand U.S.A. in Animal Kingdom along with Rivers of America and Tom Sawyer riverboat ride in Frontierland.
