pleasantville-3

A wide open field will be showcased in the Class 2A State Baseball Tournament next week in Carroll.

The Trojans are the #5 seed in the tournament with a 23-10 overall record and they will take on the #4 seed Chariton Chargers who have a 24-4 overall record. Pleasantville last competed in the state tournament in 2016 as the last trip for the Chargers was 2013. Other matchups in the tournament include #1 seed Underwood against #8 Unity Christian, #3 seed Sumner-Fredericksburg against #6 Wilton, and #2 seed New Hampton against #7 Aplington-Parkersburg.

The field is unique this year as both of the top two ranked teams in the state for Class 2A, West Marshall and Des Moines Christian, did not qualify for the state tournament. The best record in the field is top seeded Underwood who is 27-2. Underwood is also the only team in the field who made the tournament last year, and Aplington-Parkersburg has never been in the tournament.

The tournament in Carroll will kick off Tuesday with the Trojans playing at 1:30. KNIA/KRLS will be broadcasting the game live.
