Two Pella athletes will likely find themselves with a wide range of postseason honors for their work in being the key contributors in getting the Dutch to their fifth-ever state baseball tournament.

Isaiah Kettler ranks 2nd in batting average among all qualifying batters in Class 3A (.515), with the 5th most total bases (86) and 4th best on-base percentage (.602). The junior has stayed high in those rankings all season long, and has also found his stride as a closer on the mound, tabbing three saves and striking out 31 batters in 13 1/3 innings. Kettler is 2/3rds of an inning shy of qualifying, but his opponents batting average of .047 would be the lowest in 3A if he did.

Teagan Hoekstra ranks tied-for-3rd with wins as a pitcher, tallying nine this year. His 73 strikeouts are 12th best among all 3A pitchers and his 1.03 WHIP is 28th in the class. He leads a pitching staff that ranks 6th in 3A for most strikeouts (272), 5th in ERA (2.47) and WHIP (1.25) and 12th in opponents batting average (.218).

While the duo get a lot of the spotlight for the green and white, a few teammates are also among statistical leaders in Class 3A. Landyn Bethards has the most sacrifice bunts of anyone in the class at 10. Among qualifying pitchers, Ryan Howard ranks 4th in walks allowed (four) and 5th in runs allowed (four). Anderson Schirm ranks as one of the most active catchers in Iowa, with 276 successful putouts and 304 total defensive chances — both in the top five, with a .984 fielding percentage.

Pella opens the state tournament on Monday against Sioux City Heelan at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids. Coverage begins at 4:30 that afternoon on 92.1 KRLS.
