The Pella Public Library will host Dr. Paula Plaza for the program Mind in Motion: How Moving your Body can Boost your Brainpower and Quality of Life on Monday at 6:30 pm in the Library’s Meeting Room.

During the program, residents are invited to learn more about how regular exercise positively impacts brain function and enhances memory, attention, and overall mental well-being. Dr. Plaza says that the program will also discuss the protective effects of exercise against age-related cognitive decline.

“There is growing evidence saying that physical activity is a neuro-protector. That means that if you do that (physical exercise), then your brain, with age or aging, won’t decline that much.”

The session, which is free and open to the public, will provide practical tips and guidelines on incorporating effective physical activities into a daily routine. Dr. Plaza is a professor of physical therapy at Universidad Andres Bello, Viña del Mar, Chile. Her current research focuses on the role of physical activity in cognition with public health applications.
