Stephen is an award-winning financial journalist with more than 25 years of experience. He started his journalism career in 1996 in São Paulo, Brazil, where he covered financial markets, economics and corporate news for Dow Jones Newswires. He then served as Brazil bureau chief for Dow Jones, before transferring to New York to oversee coverage of Latin America and emerging markets. In 2005, Stephen moved to Chicago as bureau chief and managed a team of reporters covering automakers, airlines, railroads, delivery services companies, agribusiness, commodities markets and exchanges. In 2009, he moved back to New York and held a variety of editing roles for Dow Jones Newswires, including Senior Editor for the Americas. In 2013, Stephen was named the first-ever Head of Real-Time News at The Wall Street Journal. Three years later he was appointed to the masthead-level role of Editor, Professional News. In that position, which he held for five years, Stephen was responsible for WSJ Pro-branded products and Dow Jones Newswires. In his last role at WSJ, as Assistant Manager Editor for Talent, Stephen was responsible for hiring and talent development for the global newsroom.

Education

Stephen received a B.A. in sociology and urban studies from Northwestern University. He also holds an M.A. in urban studies from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
