Johnny Depp’s Dating History Includes Romances With Winona Ryder, Kate Moss and More

Johnny and the Dirty Dancing star met through her agent in 1989, and according to Jennifer, things heated up very quickly. She claimed in her 2022 memoir, Out of the Corner, that Johnny proposed to her after only two weeks of dating. The pair split nine months later.

Winona Ryder

A love so great Johnny had it tattooed on his arm! He was awestruck after seeing Winona at a 1989 movie premiere and a few months later, the pair were introduced by a mutual friend. The gorgeous couple got engaged after just five months of dating, and Johnny later infamously got the words “Winona Forever” tattooed on his bicep.

“I’m being really honest with you when I say that there’s been nothing ever throughout my twenty-seven years that’s comparable to the feeling I have with Winona. It’s like this weird, bounding atom or something. You can think something is the real thing, but it’s different when you feel it. The truth is very powerful,” Johnny said about their relationship to Rolling Stone in 1991.

The real-life loves played sweethearts in Tim Burton’s iconic 1990 film, Edward Scissorhands. The pair eventually broke up after three years together and Johnny got his tattoo altered to read “Wino Forever.”

Ellen Barkin

Following his 1993 split from Winona, Johnny briefly dated fellow actress Ellen Barkin, who was separated from then-husband Gabriel Byrne.

Kate Moss

Johnny and the supermodel dated from late 1994 through 1998. “There’s nobody that’s ever really been able to take care of me. Johnny did for a bit. I believed what he said,” Kate told Vanity Fair in 2012. She added that their breakup resulted in “years” of personal heartbreak. “Like if I said, ‘What do I do?,’ he’d tell me. And that’s what I missed when I left. I really lost that gauge of somebody I could trust. Nightmare. Years and years of crying. Oh, the tears!”

Vanessa Paradis

Johnny’s longest romance of his life, as the two spent 14 years as a couple. He met the French actress and singer in 1998, on the heels of his split from Kate Moss. The pair went on to start a family almost immediately, welcoming daughter Lily-Rose in 1999 and son Jack in 2002. They lived an idyllic life in a self-contained 37-acre French village near St. Tropez for many years, until the couple split in 2012.

“I see that the children are happy, healthy and seem to be on the right path in life. And then I look at Vanessa, who’s incredibly supportive, loving and talented in all sorts of ways. She and I have been together for nearly 14 years, and, well, I can hardly believe it. It only seems like yesterday that we met,” he told the Daily Mail in 2011.

Johnny would later go on to explain to Rolling Stone in 2013 following their split, “It wasn’t easy on [Vanessa]. It wasn’t easy on me. It wasn’t easy on the kids. It doesn’t stop the fact that you care for that person, and they’re the mother of your kids, and you’ll always know each other, and you’re always gonna be in each other’s lives because of those kids.”

Amber Heard

Johnny and Amber met when the two costarred in the 2011 film Rum Diaries. They came out as a couple almost immediately on the heels of his split from Vanessa, and got engaged in 2014. Amber became Johnny’s second wife when the pair tied the knot in February 2015 on his private island in the Bahamas.

Fifteen months after they wed, the couple split, and Amber accused Johnny of domestic violence. Their divorce was finalized in January 2017, and Amber went to write an op-ed for the Washington Post the following year about allegedly being a survivor of domestic violence during their marriage. Johnny, who has always maintained his innocence and has vehemently denied he was ever physically violent, sued Amber in a $50 million defamation lawsuit. She is countersuing him for $100 million. The case went to trial in 2022.

Yulia Vlasova

In July 2024, Johnny was linked to model Yulia Vlasova, and a source revealed some details about their relationship to In Touch that same month.

“It’s casual,” the insider explained on July 16, 2024.

The source clarified that while Yulia was not Johnny’s “girlfriend,” the Big Fish star and Yulia saw “each other here and there.”

Johnny and Yulia seemingly met sometime in 2021, and they were spotted together at the 55th Karlovy Vary International Film Festival in Prague in August of that year. The following summer, the couple was seen again in Prague in July 2022, and Yulia even shared a photo of herself giving Johnny a kiss on his cheek via social media. In July 2024, Yulia and Johnny were seen again as they departed from a heliport in London.
