’The more we grow, the more we can give to good causes,’ says managing director
Ecclesiastical has expanded its risk appetite to include businesses in more modern properties, a statement released today (3 July 2023) has revealed.
The specialist insurer is known for its expertise in the heritage sector, but is expanding its leisure potrolfio as it looks to double the size of its business.
The move will see Ecclesiastical initially target four and five-star hotels, fine-dining restaurants, gastropubs and visitor attractions.
It also has plans to expand to more customer groups in the future.
Richard Coleman, managing director of Ecclesiastical, said: “We’re ambitious for growth and we’ve identified the leisure sector as an exciting opportunity for us.
“We’re already specialists in heritage, where we understand this type of operating risk, and so we can bring that wealth of underwriting and risk management knowledge and expertise to a wider range of businesses.”
Broker demand
Ecclesiastical said the expansion came in response to customer and broker demand for more specialist cover.

“Brokers really appreciate what we do – we’re specialists, give strong service and they tell us they want to work with us more, which is why we’re expanding into new sectors,” Coleman added.
“Our leisure policy offers specialist cover that meets the specific needs of customers.”
Coleman also felt that the move meant the insurer could give more to good causes through owners Benefact Group.
“Being charity owned, we have a unique purpose that drives us forward and makes this a very special organisation to work for,” he added.
”This launch is part of our growth strategy as we look to double the size of our business.”
