Previous reports suggested that Harry wasn’t originally planning on attending the Spencer family event, but in hindsight, he’s reportedly happy he decided to make an appearance at the emotional tribute alongside members of Princess Diana’s side of the family. Sources told People that although they didn’t see Harry and William didn’t speak at the memorial, the prince is “pleased” by his reception at the family gathering. Harry sat separately from William at the St. Mary’s Church service on Aug. 29, with both brothers surrounded by multiple family members, several sources told the publication. While the Duke of Sussex has gotten a largely frosty reception from the Windsor side of the family, he’s still on very good terms with the Spencers, including Princess Diana’s sister Lady Jane. According to People, multiple groups of family members and friends approached both brothers throughout the memorial service. Harry and William reportedly stood quite close to each other at various points, but sources at the event said they didn’t see them acknowledge each other or speak to one another. Getty Images While the Duke of Sussex has been avoiding attending events where he could potentially run into his brother or King Charles, including the highly-publicized wedding of Hugh Grosvenor (the Duke of Westminster) to Olivia Henson, royal insiders aren’t surprised that he chose to make an exception for this memorial. “I think it was lovely and right that he came and paid his respects,” a royal source told the publication. Another insider said that it’s possible that Harry may begin to spend more time with the Spencer family as he struggles with his father and Kate Middleton’s health issues.
