King Charles Would Reportedly Like Kate Middleton to Attend Trooping the Colour

He'd be "delighted" to have her there.

Trooping the Colour is just around the corner—the annual tradition is taking place on June 15 this year—and it's been a will they or won't they scenario for the royal family. The firm has paused most public engagements through July 4, due to England's general election, however, it was announced that the yearly celebration would still be taking place on the storied balcony of Buckingham Palace.

King Charles is also confirmed to be attending, though, he will be changing up his entrance amid his cancer struggles (he'll ride in a carriage rather than on horse back). Kate Middleton has stayed out of the spotlight during her cancer treatment, but sources previously reported that the Princess of Wales was considering making a surprise appearance during the event.

Of course, if Middleton were to attend, the princess's return to the public it would be headline-making news, and a public relations expert weighed in on Charles's feelings about it. (Spoiler: He'd be "delighted" to have his “beloved daughter-in-law” waving alongside of him.)

“If Kate were to appear on the balcony, it would definitely dominate the news,” PR authority Rhea Freeman explained to GB News. “But from everything I’ve read and seen, I would imagine that the King would be delighted to have her there.”

The two royals have both been battling cancer this year. Charles announced his diagnosis back in February, while Middleton's revelation came in March after months of rumors and conspiracy theories. The future of the monarchy has become unclear during this time due to the dwindling number of members who have been able to work. However, if Middleton were to return for Trooping the Colour, Freeman noted that it could make a bigger statement about the firm's status.

“It would reinforce the strength of the monarchy moving forward, something that has been questioned by some with both the King and Kate’s recent health concerns," Freeman said.

Of course, even when Middleton does officially return, her role could look very different. A source recently told Us Weekly that her team has been “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back." “She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before," the insider said.

“Her role may look very different,” another source told the outlet. “She’s looking at what it will shape into.”
