Twenty years after the original 2004 Bennifer breakup, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez have officially called it quits a second time around, after two years of marriage and amid a torrent of rumors surrounding their on-again, off-again Hollywood love story.

Perhaps the news comes as no surprise: The couple did spend the summer apart, after all, with Lopez traveling to Italy, New York City, and the Hamptons, while Affleck stayed in L.A. They were "focused on their separate lives," a source told People, and “[didn't] have any summer plans together."

Fair enough, but when the pair put their Beverly Hills home up for sale in July, divorce rumors reached a fever pitch. Lopez swapped out her "Ben" nameplate necklace for a "Jennifer" one; meanwhile, Affleck was spotted without his wedding ring. When word of the split finally broke on August 20, the news wasn't exactly surprising, but nevertheless sad.

"[Lopez] is very disappointed and sad, but Ben hasn't given her any signs that he wants to continue their marriage," a source told People after the divorce plans were made public. "He hasn't shown any commitment and interest in making their marriage work. It's gotten to the point that she just needs to look out for herself."

Lopez filed for divorce on the couple's second wedding anniversary.

Just five days after Affleck's 52nd birthday, and more importantly, on the anniversary of the couple's Georgia wedding, Lopez filed for divorce. She did so without a lawyer, and after it was reported that the couple were waiting to reveal their split "for the sake of their kids."

"They want to make sure the kids are comfortable with the transition and where they are living, etcetera," a source told Entertainment Tonight in early August. "They don't want to make it feel like they're pulling the rug from underneath their children. They're making a mutual effort to ensure that this transition is as healthy and easy as possible."

For her part, Lopez apparently couldn't wait any longer to begin said transition, and filed her paperwork on August 20.

Lopez and Affleck actually broke up back in April.

After news of the couple's split exploded across the internet on August 20, a new detail revealed the true timeline of the relationship's demise. Affleck and Lopez had actually parted ways on April 26, according to Lopez's divorce papers, even though a separation was never officially confirmed.

Lopez and Affleck did not sign a prenup before tying the knot in 2022.

In a small ceremony at the Little White Wedding Chapel in Las Vegas, Lopez and Affleck tied the knot on July 17, 2022, later making things all the more official with a larger wedding in Georgia on August 20. At the time, Lopez described the Vegas event in her newsletter, On The JLo, as "the best possible wedding we could have imagined."

"We did it," she continued. "Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient. Exactly what we wanted. Last night we flew to Vegas, stood in line for a license with four other couples, all making the same journey to the wedding capital of the world."

One thing was missing from the wedding, however: a prenup. Now that the couple's divorce plans have been made public, it appears no settlement is in place. Affleck is worth approximately $150 million while Lopez is worth $400 million, per Celebrity Net Worth. In her papers, Lopez also requested the judge waive spousal support for both parties.

Lopez and Affleck are already living apart after selling their joint home in July.

Perhaps the biggest indicator of the couple's marital woes was the sale of their Beverly Hills mansion in July, which they listed for $68 million.

"Ben never liked the house," a sourced told People at the time. "It's too far away from his kids" and, as for Lopez, "the house is way too big for her."

Affleck quickly moved into a new home in Los Angeles later that same month, this time without his wife. Lopez, meanwhile, also started her own house hunt in L.A. While Affleck moved to Pacific Palisades to be closer to his ex, Jennifer Garner, and his kids, Lopez was spotted touring homes in their old neighborhood, Beverly Hills.

"Jennifer is trying to find a new home to start fresh,” an insider told People. “She always has [a] good attitude even when things are not perfect.”
