- TriviaWhen The Kid awakens and sees Billy the Kid for the first time, Billy's pose closely duplicates the iconic photo which purports to be one of the very few of him. That photo shows Billy as left-handed, but it is a tintype, and therefore produces a reversed image. As a result, many movies featuring Billy have depicted him as left-handed.
- GoofsAt one point, Pat Garrett claims the authority of "the state of New Mexico". At that time, New Mexico was only a Territory.
- Quotes
Billy 'The Kid' Bonney: This long, unendin' thing of my soul. Maybe it's my own damn fault what people think of me. Sometimes, when I'm alone, I get this feelin', like nothing's good or ever's gonna be. And I try tellin' myself the feelin' ain't real. I try. But..but deep down, I know. Guess that means ain't no good moment I ever had weren't a lie. You ever feel that way?
Rio Cutler: What way?
Billy 'The Kid' Bonney: The way, like the only reason you ain't afraid what happens next is 'cause you know there ain't nothin' you can do for it to mean a goddamn thing.
Rio Cutler: I know what happens next. And it's the only thing that matters.
Billy 'The Kid' Bonney: Well..I wish I was more like you, kid. I truly do.

This started out as quite violent in darkened scenes and no one could really tell what was going on. We do see Grant be quite violent towards Rio who killed his father who was brutally attacking and killing his wife. Somehow Rio and his sister Sara escape and they meet up with Billy the Kid.
We have all heard the story of Sheriff Pat Garrett killing Billy the Kid, but this is the other Kid's story who still needs to rescue his sister Sara.
I couldn't help noticing that Dane Dehaan as Billy the Kid sometimes had the look of Brad Pitt or maybe it was just me. (No, I saw it, too) Anyway, he had a lot of good scenes and you couldn't help rooting for him. And that Brad Pitt look he seems to have isn't going to hurt him and we'll see more of him I am sure. (Hey, don't forget about the very pretty Leila George, too, as Sara, and she can act.)
Hard to tell that was Chris Pratt as Grant Cutler with that beard. (Yeah, fooled me, too)
Notable: Vincent D'Onofrio as Sheriff Romero, and he also directed this movie. He did good. Kudos.
Now, how true any of this is up for grabs as we have seen many versions of the Billy the Kid story, and this was just another one.
All in all a good entertaining Western even though sometimes the violence was a little too much. The acting all around is first rate. It is nice to see that Westers are making a come-back. Well, let's hope. (7/10)
Violence: Yes, and more so than usual. Sex: No. Nudity: No. Humor: No. Language: Yes. Rating: B
