I have always enjoyed watching celebrity documentaries like "E! True Hollywood Story" and "Biography." When I saw the documentary series, "Too Young to Die" on Netflix, I just knew I had to add it to my list.
So far, I have watched the following episodes from Season 1: "Sharon Tate," "Natalie Wood," "Judy Garland," "Kurt Cobain," and "River Phoenix."
This documentary series definitely does not disappoint the viewer. Each episode is narrated well and we get a glimpse into each celebrity's life. Each episode covers the star's life from when he or she was born until his or her final days. We also get to see where they grew up and learn more about their childhood and rise to stardom. Also each episode has a running time of 51 minutes which I think is a good length. I think it isn't too long but isn't too short either.
We get to hear perspectives and insights from family members, friends, colleagues, biographers, fellow fans, and so forth. These tiny details are often not something we can find in books or movies. But these things can only be told by those who were very close to the celebrities themselves.
Also this series really makes you think of what could have been if he or she had lived. What else would they have been able to achieve? What other dreams did they hope to fulfill? Why did fate get in the way of their aspiring success?
Some of these celebrities were just starting out and were on their way to achieving astounding possibilities but their lives were tragically cut short. Some reached high levels of fame and popularity but didn't know how to handle it all. It just became too much for them. Then there were some who came crashing down because they weren't getting many job offers like they used to. They felt their days were outnumbered.
All these people lived for such a short while but made such an impression on pop culture and left behind such legacies. Fortunately, we have their movies, music, and stories to remember them by.
On a side note, I would have to disagree with what another reviewer had posted on here regarding some celebrities being too "old" when they died. I know some celebrities died in their 20s which is very young while others have died in their 40s. If we compare that to how most people in general pass away in their 70s+ then I think the 40s age range is still pretty young. However, I do agree with what the reviewer said regarding this series being well presented and including thorough research.
I hope there will be a season 2 because I am looking forward to watching it. I would like to see episodes in season 2 or future seasons which feature James Dean (24), Dominique Dunne (22), Rebecca Schaeffer (21), Karen Carpenter (32), and Jonathan Brandis (27).
If you like documentaries like "E! True Hollywood Story" or any other celebrity documentary series then I highly recommend "Too Young to Die." You won't be disappointed!
