There is a new Terminator series coming to Netflix. However, this one is an anime unlike the live-action Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. The series is called Terminator Zero, and it is going to hit Netflix on a very special date that will pay tribute to the original movies in the franchise.
Here is when Terminator Zero is coming to Netflix, and a look at the first trailer.

On August 29, 1997, Skynet AI began its war against humanity. And in the latest installment in the Terminator franchise, the upcoming Netflix anime series “Terminator Zero,” only one person might be able to stop the impending apocalypse.
Set in 2022, the eight-episode series will follow characters we have not yet met in the beloved franchise. According to a release, “Caught between the future and this past is a soldier sent back in time to change the fate of humanity. She arrives in 1997 to protect a scientist named Malcolm Lee who works to launch a new AI system designed to compete with Skynet’s impending attack on humanity. As Malcolm navigates the moral complexities of his creation, he’s hunted by an unrelenting assassin from the future, which forever alters the fate of his three children.”

A simple story, non-stop action directed by James Cameron, and a charismatic villain with memorable lines are all it takes to turn a low-budget movie into an instant classic. The Terminator is a gripping thriller, a survival drama, and a time-travel science fiction movie. Three genres – one great movie.
Judgement Day is perhaps one of the best sequels of all time, which, like any good sequel, does not exploit the merits of the original, but reinterprets them. It was Judgment Day that forever cemented the franchise in the cultural code and made James Cameron the most important blockbuster director of our time.
After the second installment, however, the franchise began to decline. Rise of the Machines, Terminator Salvation and Genisys stagnated in the same place without giving the audience anything new, but 2008 brought Terminator fans a real gift – the Fox series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.

"There is no future but what we make for ourselves" — the guiding principle of the Terminator franchise. Unfortunately, the real-life principle has largely amounted to, "There is no future but what Hollywood makes for the rest of us." This is one of those franchises where studios have rebooted, soft-rebooted, legacy-sequeled, and generally mangled what was once an innovative and interesting storyline into an incomprehensible mess — to the point that the saga's main star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is now done with the franchise.
It's a sad state of affairs for this once great sci-fi story. Still, there's hope as long as creator James Cameron harbors a desire to make another Terminator movie based on A.I. For the time being, though, we're left with what has become an unnecessarily complicated Terminator timeline, leaving anyone trying to figure out the correct order to watch the Terminator movies confused. Since making its debut at last year’s Fantasia Film Festival, New Life has garnered a lot of attention for its first-time writer/director John Rosman and his potentially apocalyptic chase film. I missed it during its festival run, but on the eve of its American release, I got my chance to rectify that and see if it lived up to its hype.
It starts like a conventional thriller, with a bloodied woman slipping through the streets of what looks like a typical American suburb, trying to avoid being seen. She lets herself into her house and cleans herself up. She barely managed to wash and change before she sees armed men in her kitchen. She lets herself out a window and, since they apparently never learned about guarding a perimeter,...

To say the Terminator timeline is pretty confusing at this point would be an understatement. The franchise, created with the release of James Cameron's seminal 1984 effort "The Terminator," has since been softly rebooted, retconned, and generally mishandled by successive generations of studios and filmmakers. So twisted is the saga's internal timeline that watching the "Terminator" movies in any kind of coherent order has become a challenge not unlike trying to destroy the T-800 himself.
Prior to the release of 2019's "Terminator: Dark Fate," things seemed to be looking up. With the help of James Cameron on producing duties, director Tim Miller decided to forget the three lackluster films that followed the modern classic that is 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and simply pick up where that stellar entry in the franchise left off. Goodbye, The Lazarus Project. Unless a mysterious sci-fi organisation steps in to reset time to before Sky chose to cancel the mind-bending time travel drama, that’s our lot. After airing two seasons, they won’t be making a third.
The news was first announced in The Sun, and later confirmed by trustworthy outlets including TV Zone and RadioTimes.com. It had previously been rumoured that if season three were to go ahead, creator Joe Barton would be stepping back to a producer role and welcoming in new writers, who would have to do without some of the major cast members including Tom Burke. Now, that won’t happen because season two will be the last.
Barton posted the cancellation news on social media, along with a meme featuring a woman and a child wearing matching denim jackets throwing confetti in the air, along with the words “Don’t cry because it’s over,...

Walter Koenig came to "Star Trek" in only its second season, but he is part of the series' legacy thanks to his role as Ensign Pavel Chekov (not to mention being one of the few major "The Original Series" actors still with us). An American TV show featuring a Russian character as a good guy during the height of the Cold War? That was just one of the ways that "Star Trek" pushed the envelope.
Unfortunately, as you Trekkies reading know, "Star Trek" lasted only two more years after Koenig joined the cast in 1967; NBC canceled the show due to low ratings and the last episode first aired on June 3, 1969. That cancellation wasn't the end for "Star Trek" — it's a full-blown media franchise now — but it seemed like it was at the time.

Considering how big the Terminator franchise has been, you’d think there would have been more TV-focused content based on it. Until now, the only T.V. version of the Terminator we had was the (rather good) The Sarah Connor Chronicles. Yet, with the film franchise on ice post-Dark Fate, Netflix is teasing an all-new streaming spin-off, albeit an animated one!
Indeed, as part of their Geeked Week event, the streamer unveiled a teaser trailer (which is little more than a title at this point) for Terminator: The Anime Series. Sporting music that pays homage to Brad Fiedel’s iconic score, the teaser promised a new addition to the franchise from Skydance, Japan Animation Studio Production I.G., and Mattson Tomlin (Mother/Android). At the moment, James Cameron doesn’t seem to be involved.
Here’s the synopsis from Deadline:

After so many acclaimed and popular performances in projects ranging from 300 to Game of Thrones to The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Lena Headey is stepping behind the camera for the first time for her directorial debut, The Trap.
The indie film – which is having its world premiere this weekend at the Austin Film Festival — is a character-driven psychological drama with some shockingly dark elements (which will not be spoiled here). The Trap stars Headey’s Thrones co-star Michelle Fairley as a woman living a life of solitude when she meets a mysterious young drifter (James Nelson Joyce). The project is based on Headey’s short film, which she also wrote.
The Trap comes at a busy time for Headey, who also stars in Zak Penn’s upcoming sci-fi series Beacon 23, which premieres Nov. 12 on MGM+, and she stars in Kurt Sutter’s upcoming Netflix Western drama series The Abandons,...

It lasted only one season, but fans still mourn the demise of the sci-fi/western Firefly. As much as we love watching (and rewatching) the series, sometimes it's not enough.
Are you longing for a little more Captain Tight Pants? Want to see Zoe quietly kick some adversary's butt? Wishing you could revisit the Hero of Canton?
Well, we can't bring back Firefly -- oh, how we wish we could! -- but we can tell you where you can tune in to see the cast now.
If you can't get enough of the crew of the Serenity, read on to find out where you can see them now.

Shepherd Book was the preacher with a cryptic past who boards the Serenity and befriends its crew. We loved Book's warmth and acceptance of his other crew members while still being able to hold onto his faith.

Don't get us wrong: Everyone who works on a television show plays an important part in the production process, but without the writers ... well, you just won't have much of a show. Networks have learned that lesson the hard way several times over the years, when protracted union negotiations with the Writers Guild of America eventually led to a writers' strike. Until the current WGA strike -- which began on May 2, 2023 -- the most recent example of this occurred from November 2007 to February 2008, when the WGA picketed the studios for over three months, grinding Hollywood television production to a halt.
Some shows were lucky enough to have completed their entire episode run before the labor dispute began in earnest, while others got by without an official writing staff (hence the explosion of mostly forgotten reality shows from this period). But for many series on the air at the time, the strike forced producers to scramble,...

As the WGA strike continues amid what all parties believe will be a long-haul showdown, “Jurassic World: Camp Cretaceous” creator Zack Stentz knows that there’s a big difference between the excitement and can-do spirit on the second day versus the second month.
“At that point, they start wondering if they are going to make the rent or the mortgage payment or if they are younger if they are going to have to move back in with their parents,” noted Stentz.
The screenwriter behind “X-Men: First Class” and “Thor” sat down for a conversation with TheWrap. Among the issues discussed were the initial vibe among strike participants, how one of his early television successes may have been a casualty of the last WGA strike in 2007, and what leverage the streamers and the networks have up their sleeves if they are “smart” enough to use them.

There's another writer switch happening behind the scenes of a bit upcoming Marvel movie. Add to the recent news that Lee Sung Jin is working on a new draft of Thunderbolts the fact that Josh Friedman, who was part of James Cameron's writing team on the Avatar sequels, will re-write the Fantastic Four script.
WandaVision director Matt Shakman is currently aboard to make the movie, which won't re-tell the superheroes' origin story, but will introduce the main versions of Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm to the MCU (following John Krasinski's cameo as Richards in Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness).

Marvel’s first family is getting a rewrite. Josh Friedman, who worked on Avatar: The Way of Water and developed Snowpiercer as a TNT television series, has been tapped to write the script for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.

Lena Headey is headed to Netflix.
The Game of Thrones and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles alum will headline Kurt Sutter's action drama series The Abandons.
"As a group of diverse, outlier families pursue their Manifest Destiny in 1850s Oregon, a corrupt force of wealth and power, coveting their land, tries to force them out," the logline reads.
"These abandoned souls, the kind of lost souls living on the fringe of society, unite their tribes to form a family and fight back."
"In this bloody process, 'justice' is stretched beyond the boundaries of the law."
"The Abandons will explore that fine line between survival and law, the consequences of violence, and the corrosive power of secrets, as this family fights to keep their land."
Headey will play Fiona, "a strong, devout matriarch who, unable to have her own children, took in four orphans to create her own family," according to Deadline.

[Editor’s note: The following story contains some spoilers for “Avatar: The Way of Water.”]
James Cameron is a consistent over-achiever. He works overtime to create movies that make audiences happy. He tries to stimulate their pleasure center. And he wants to lure them back for repeat viewings.
Released 13 years after the original, Cameron’s “Avatar” sequel, “The Way of Water,” cost so much (350-400 million) that the filmmaker estimates it has to gross 2 billion to make a profit. But even Cameron has to level up, and his...

Thomas Dekker has been acting since he was six years old. Now 34, he’s best known for playing Zach on “Heroes” and John Connor on the short-lived “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.”
But the spotlight unexpectedly became much brighter in 2017 when former “Heroes” co-executive producer and writer Bryan Fuller outed Dekker during a speech at Outfest. While Fuller didn’t mention Dekker by name, he talked about a gay actor on the show whose character was also gay until the actor’s team insisted he be straight. It didn’t take long for people to figure out who he was referring to.
Dekker responded by acknowledging he was gay in an open letter he posted on Twitter.
Looking back, Dekker insists he has no hard feelings toward Fuller. “Everyone has their journey and I hated that mine was taken away from me in a way,” Dekker tells me during a...

Career killer gets stuck with a cute kid. It’s a great story premise, and one that has led to many a action movie classic, from True Grit to Terminator 2. In Gunpowder Milkshake, the Netflix neon noir from Israeli director Navot Papushado, the set-up works its magic again. Here, the career killer is professional assassin Sam (Karen Gillan), who learned the family business from single mom Scarlet (Game of Thrones‘ Lena Headey) before she abandoned Sam 15 years ago after a job gone wrong. When Sam gets hired by all-powerful shadow organization The Firm to retrieve some stolen money, it seems like just another case… until she realizes 8-year-old Emily’s (Big Little Lies‘ Chloe Coleman) life is at stake. Sam is no hero. She does terrible things in this very movie, but, like other action movie killers before her, Sam has a code: she draws the line at children getting killed,...

She teams with creator Steve Yockey
Natalie Chaidez has joined HBO Max’s “The Flight Attendant” as co-showrunner for Season 2. She’ll team with series creator Steve Yockey in the role.
“The Flight Attendant” is described as a “dark comedic thriller” starring Kaley Cuoco as a flight attendant wakes up in the wrong hotel, in the wrong bed, with a dead man — and no idea what happened. Season 1 was based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian, with Season 2 set to follow Cuoco’s character on a “new adventure,” per HBO Max.
Chaidez most recently served as executive producer and writer on USA Network crime drama “Queen of the South,” which earlier this month returned for its fifth and final season at the cable network.
