This is a movie that I'll give credit to my co-worker of Peter for turning me on to. We were chatting about the movies coming to the Gateway Film Center for their Mammoth Monday series. This is an interesting one, because it sounds like it hasn't gotten much of a release here if any. He said that what he knew was wild and that intrigued me.
He wasn't wrong. The blurb I read that changed my mind was that this is a horrorish take on 'Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs'. That is true, but I don't consider this horror. This is much more of an action, fantasy, adventure with a bit of sci-fi if anything. Even though this doesn't fall into horror, I had a blast here. We get an alien that goes into the queen while she is giving birth. It causes the baby to come out in a pulsating sack. The emperor wants it destroyed, but his minister puts it in the river instead. The thing is found by a group of generals who have been shrunk down to dwarfs. They find the egg and try to cut it open to eat. They find the baby inside.
From here we get an evil witch and sorcerer that want to take over the empire. There is a handsome prince who meets the daughter of the seven dwarfs and he falls in love. He also gets cursed by the evil duo. The dwarfs along with their daughter enlist the aid of a fairy to help them. He must find legendary armor, sword and seek the aid of a wizard to overcome the villains.
What I will say about this movie, don't come in expecting the most coherent story or things to be fully explained. This is a fun movie though. It is wild. The acting is decent but leaning more toward the comedic on accident. The effects are over the top. The soundtrack is fun. This has the charm of a team trying to make a good movie, it falls short, but you can feel the passion there. I had a blast with this. This is an above average movie for me, with quite a bit being my enjoyment for sure.
My Rating: 7 out of 10.
