Wonder Woman is many things to many people – a modern feminist icon, an inspired tale of heroism, Gal Gadot’s launch pad to superstardom…you name it.

As 2017 draws to a close, it’s almost time to look back on the past 12 months and cherry-pick the very best of what cinema had to offer – to identify those films that made our eyes widen and hearts soar.
Traditionally, those year-end reviews and timely retrospectives begin clogging up the pipes of social media in December, but the National Board of Review has got the ball rolling early with its eagerly-anticipated top 10 list. Oscar-tipped drama The Post took home the big prize after being crowned 2017’s best film, while Tom Hanks and Meryl Streep also collected Best Actor and Best Actress, respectively, for their performances in the true-life drama.
But perhaps most exciting of all, the critics group also named Logan, James Mangold’s R-rated masterpiece, among 2017’s top 10 releases. That places the superhero pic in the company of greatness, given the Nbr also shortlisted Baby Driver, Call Me By Your Name,...

UK police are investigating new accusations of sexual harassment made against Kevin Spacey.
The alleged incident took place in 2005, when Spacey was still serving as artistic director of London’s Old Vic theater. This new allegation was brought to the attention of Scotland Yard mere days after the Old Vic posted results from its own internal investigation, confirming 20 personal testimonies of alleged inappropriate behavior. Neither Kevin Spacey nor his representatives have responded at press time.
Similar to the 2008 assault, this new claim alleges an assault took place on a man in Lambeth back in 2005, which is just a stone’s throw away from the Old Vic. Scotland Yard has since confirmed officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command are looking into the complaint.
In its statement last week, the renown theater said it “truly apologizes” for not creating a safe, stable work environment:

Forget Steppenwolf and his army of Parademons; Justice League is now facing a much more formidable conundrum: a lower-than-expected box office tally.
Currently simmering at $278 million worldwide, Warner’s much-hyped ensemble film disappointed on home turf, where it’s measly $94 million domestic haul became the lowest grossing debut of any Dceu effort to date – only Wonder Woman comes close at $100 million, though Patty Jenkins’ standalone pic had a remarkably long tail, which is to say that Diana Prince ruled over the global box office all summer long for a grand total of $821 million.
Justice League, by stark contrast, is now expected to limp miserably toward $635 million, which spells trouble for the Warner Bros. bean counters. Coming out of the film’s “dismal” debut, Forbes has compiled an exhaustive report that factors just about everything into the equation – merchandise potential, overseas markets…you name it – and it looks like WB is...

Thanks to the one-two punch of Wonder Woman and the recently-released (and, sadly, widely-derided) Justice League, Diana Prince of Themyscira is arguably the hero of the hour.
Even if Justice League struggled to leave much of an impression on critics – or the domestic box office, for that matter – Gal Gadot’s Immortal Warrior truly resonated with moviegoers earlier this year, when the Wonder Woman solo movie scored excellent reviews and a whopping $821 million to match.
A sequel was then floated at Warner Bros., though it wasn’t until the studio ponied up and offered writer-director Patty Jenkins a record-setting deal that Wonder Woman 2 was officially green-lit. And so, with Dave Callaham (The Expendables) now on script duties and a late 2019 release date locked in, Diana’s second big-screen adventure is beginning to fall into place.

Three weeks after the initial allegations surfaced, the Old Vic Theater has now issued a statement confirming 20 personal testimonies of alleged inappropriate behavior by Kevin Spacey.
Spacey had served as artistic director of the Old Vic between the years of 2004 and 2015, during which time his alleged victims “felt unable to raise concerns,” because he “operated without sufficient accountability.” In light of these damning claims, the prestigious London theater has issued an apology for not maintaining a safe and sustainable work environment, while Spacey’s legal representatives are yet to fire back with any form of response.
Meanwhile, Matthew Warchus, the current artistic director presiding over the Old Vic, had this to say on the matter:
I have genuine and deep sympathy for all those who have come forward and said they were hurt in some way by my predecessor’s actions. Everyone is entitled to work in an environment free from harassment and intimidation.

Though it initially had a clear shot at the festive corridor of 2019, Wonder Woman 2 has now relocated to November 1st, 2019 to avoid a clash with the so-far untitled Star Wars: Episode IX.
Coming out of San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. slated Diana Prince’s sophomore adventure for December 13th, all the while confirming that Gal Gadot and Patty Jenkins would return to star and direct, respectively. But that was long before Lucasfilm decided to part ways with Colin Trevorrow and, as a result, delay Episode IX by a full six months – all the way back to December 20th, 2019, a mere week away from Wonder Woman 2.

Since that initial announcement, however, all’s gone quiet on the project with few to no details having been released. As such, fans are left wondering where they’ll see Leto’s Mr. J show up next. Halloween 2017 was dominated by Pennywise and Diana Prince of Themyscira, while Jigsaw laid claim to the horror throne once again with a long-awaited, and sadly underwhelming, horror sequel.
But it seems special effects maestro Steven Kostanski (The Void, ABCs of Death 2 – W is for Wish) one-upped just about everyone with his eerily life-like Halloween costume. Inspired by Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday, the ’93 slasher film that presented a deep dive into Voorhees’ supernatural roots, Kostanski has posted close-up photos of his mask, and the makeup work here is undoubtedly impressive.
Created in collaboration with Pierce Dirks, Bloody Disgusting was the first to uncover this gruesome guise, and thank heavens they did. We’ve included all four photos in the gallery below, but fair warning: the faint of heart need not apply. Indeed, if you’re at all squeamish, you’d be best skipping this one altogether, otherwise you risk ruining your breakfast.

Film aficionado Mark Roberts has uncovered a true horror relic.

Nevertheless, it seems Myers’ mask has been placed in good hands, as the spine-chilling prop is still in remarkably good condition.
While appearing on Michael-Myers.net (via Bloody Disgusting) to discuss the mask and its time-honored legacy, Mark Roberts recalled how he came into possession of the prop in the first place.

A twisting amalgamation of man and machine, Oliver Stone’s alter-ego is one of the lesser known DC characters – at least within Warner’s superhero franchise – so it’ll be interesting to watch how audiences react to Cyborg in three weeks’ time. Looks like Patty Jenkins will be the one to unleash a “full-blown” Diana Prince after all.
After some deliberation, the filmmaker has officially climbed aboard to direct Gal Gadot in the as-yet-untitled Wonder Woman 2. A December 2019 release date is already in place, and Variety notes that Jenkins will be working from a script she’s currently co-writing with DC stalwart Geoff Johns. Guess that rules her out of the race for Star Wars: Episode IX, then.

Sources close to the studio say that they’re confident a “deal will be reached soon” and as expected, it’ll also come with a significant pay raise.
In fact, not only will she be getting a higher salary, but what she earns for the pic will put her on par with what a male director would get for a sequel to a film that performed as well as Wonder Woman did. As such, she’ll now become the highest paid female director in Hollywood. Deadline actually calls her deal “historic,” and while exact numbers weren’t revealed, you can bet that she’s landed one hell of a pay day.

Rowling’s fantastical series, and thanks to the release of Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them 2 in 2018, Warner Bros. and director David Yates will take a deep dive into Dumbledore’s past – not unlike Harry plunging into the mystical Pensieve in Half-Blood Prince.
Filming is expected to get underway this summer (August, potentially?), when Sherlock Holmes and King Arthur star Jude Law will assume the role of the young Albus Dumbledore. But if an open casting call unearthed by Pottermore is to be believed,...

Industry polling service Nrg has adjusted its forecast for The Mummy – and it’s not looking too good for Universal’s budding franchise-starter.
Pegged to launch on June 9th, the report claims Alex Kurtzman’s fantastical reboot is now headed for a domestic opening in the region of $35 million. It’s a somewhat disconcerting downgrade from Nrg’s original estimation of $38 million, which is a tepid debut for a Tom Cruise-fronted blockbuster in and of itself. When pulled together, it’s enough to leave Universal brass on edge, but THR reports that the studio is now looking to The Mummy‘s performance overseas as a way to offset its lukewarm debut in North America, where it looks set to get trampled by the so-hot-right-now Wonder Woman. Indeed, Patty Jenkins’ tour-de-force – an inspiring, beautifully told origin...

Raised on the relatively sheltered island of Themsycira, Diana Prince has much to learn about the outside world by the time Patty Jenkins’ Wonder Woman gets going in earnest – including the anatomy of a man.
It allows for a delightfully innocent exchange between Gal Gadot’s title heroine and Steve Trevor, the Wwi pilot played by Chris Pine who crash lands on Themsycira and becomes the first man to walk alongside the Amazon Warrior. And though it may be considered slightly spoiler-ish, Pine reflected on Wonder Woman‘s most revealing scene in a recent interview with Kabc.
The Star Trek actor, who was partially nude for the bathing scene, recalled the moment in which Diana Prince looks on at his Trevor with curious fascination, before she asks whether he considers himself a typical man. Trevor’s response? “Slightly above average.”
“I actually knew I was going to do the movie because of that.

It’s arguably DC’s greatest feat since The Dark Knight and is the current queen of the worldwide box office – a better-than-expected domestic haul of $100 million was enough to catapult the Patty Jenkins-directed origin movie toward $230 million in its opening weekend – so it’s small wonder (heh) that Wonder Woman continues to dominate headlines left, right, and center.
The latest Diana Prince-related tidbit comes to us by way of Entertainment Weekly, after the outlet caught up with Patty Jenkins to discuss the inevitable sequel. Wonder Woman Day may not take place until June 3rd, technically speaking, but with Patty Jenkins’ long-awaited standalone hitting theaters today, June 2nd, Warner Bros. is wanting to kick off the annual celebration ahead of schedule. And we’re more than okay with that.
Buoyed by stellar reviews, Wonder Woman was, for a very brief period, the highest-rated superhero movie on Rotten Tomatoes, and though that astonishing figure has already begun to plateau as more reviews begin to surface, there’s no question that Warner Bros. has a hit on its hands with Diana Prince’s first big-screen solo movie.
And we’re already beginning to see that wave of positivity filter through into the box office numbers. Over the past two days, for instance, Wonder Woman garnered $6.1 million overseas before landing an additional $11 million from Thursday night previews. That’s the highest preview figure for a film helmed by...

It’s June 2nd, dear readers, and that can only mean one thing: Wonder Woman has graced theaters across the globe.
To say that Diana Prince’s origin story has been a long time coming may read as something of a colossal understatement, but after unanimous praise pushed Wonder Woman toward becoming the highest-rated superhero movie on Rotten Tomatoes, you’d struggle to find anyone who isn’t excited to catch the Patty Jenkins-directed standalone pic on the big screen. Rooted in a Wwi setting – and for very good reason, it seems – Wonder Woman follows Gal Gadot’s graceful heroine from the sun-kissed beaches of Themyscira all the way to The Great War, where she fights alongside Steve Trevor (Chris Pine) for the good of humanity.

In fiction, World War II tends to be the more popular choice when it comes to 20th century conflicts. Spanning six years and five continents, the Second World War was one of historic invasions (the Normandy landings), fearsome weaponry (the Fat Man and Little Boy atomic bombs that reduced parts of Japan to dust), and power-mongering dictators bordering on the caricature (see: Adolf Hitler).
WWII is therefore considered to be inherently more cinematic than, say, The Great War of the early 1900s, which was notorious for its complex politics, trench warfare, and rudimentary arsenal.
And though she was initially wary of the pitch, Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins recently recalled the “genius” behind the film’s period setting while speaking with Entertainment Weekly. Those familiar with the source material will know that Diana Prince initially burst onto the scene circa World War II, but here, Jenkins outlines her reasoning behind Wonder Woman‘s time period.

Warner Bros. is already beginning to host screenings of Patty Jenkins’ standalone pic across the country, and the consensus seems to be one of cautious optimism – so far, at least. That momentum continued to burn bright earlier this morning when Empire returned from Themyscira bearing gifts, namely an all-new action shot of Robin Wright’s Antiope. Dubbed the “greatest warrior of all time” by DC producer Charles Roven, Diana Prince’s hardened aunt is not to be trifled with, and from the trailers alone, we know that Antiope will be one of the key figures in helping Gal Gadot’s Amazonian transition from a kind-hearted island dweller with...

Wonder Woman is just over a month away now, but with all the attention being placed firmly on James Gunn’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 at the moment, you’d be forgiven for not knowing.
In fact, fans have been growing increasingly worried in recent weeks, claiming that Warner Bros. hasn’t been doing enough marketing for the film, fearing that the studio may be getting ready to write it off. While it’s still too early to make those kind of assumptions, it does feel like there’s been a lack of promotional material compared to what we see from other comic book movies. Or at least, there was. Now, however, things look to be picking up.

Wonder Woman fans have been waiting for decades to see the most famous superheroine in the world get a solo movie of her own and now, with the release just five weeks away, people are nervous that Warner Bros. is dropping the ball when it comes to marketing the film. Truth be told, it initially seems like a fair criticism. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 saw a plethora of trailers and numerous TV spots in the run-up to its release, with Justice League and Thor: Ragnarok garnering a huge amount of attention as well, despite their release dates being months away. Wonder Woman, on the other hand, not so much.

It’s interesting that this teaser is treating the identity of the hero’s father as some sort of mystery, especially as an earlier trailer confirmed that she ultimately learns he’s Zeus. Chances are then that Wonder Woman will handle that as something being kept from Diana until she leaves Themyscira and encounters Ares.

Now that we have that business with the fake Joker behind us, Harley Quinn #14 marks the beginning of a new story arc. But when you take into account that only the first few pages would have aligned with the “Red Meat” theme, it’s best DC went with the switch.
As to what those first few pages encompass, they see Ms. Berkowitz employ a motley crew that are not unlike vampires to, um, take care of New York’s homeless problem. Once equipped with the blade, Gal Gadot’s title protagonist is all but ready to leave the nest, deciding to plot course for a war-torn Europe to help save humanity from itself.

Since reprising his role as the latter on The Flash, it became quite obvious from the start that this version of Trickster was written more like the Joker, with Hamill obviously using his now infamous character voice that was once exclusive to the Clown Prince of Crime. It’s as if the producers said, “hey, Mark, use your Joker voice when playing Trickster. We doubt a single fan will complain.”

From what we’ve heard, it’ll come packing an additional 13 minutes of never before seen footage, which Warner Bros. has been busy teasing, and will hopefully present an improved version of what we saw in theatres. Not that Suicide Squad was a total disaster, mind you, but it certainly had its fair share of problems – chief amongst them being the fact that the studio cut a whole lot of footage featuring Jared Leto’s Joker.

It’s nothing to stop the presses, of course, but it’s still a nice reminder that the new version of the film will come packing a generous 13 extra minutes of new footage that didn’t make it into the theatrical cut. Then again, given that the...

Production on Zack Snyder’s Justice League has drawn to a close, that much we know. But the 2017 event film continues to be an exciting source for comic book movie tidbits, even releasing a ruddy brilliant behind-the-scenes montage to celebrate the end of principal photography.
Now, thanks to an eagle-eyed fan account – as relayed by Cbm – we have a new look at a glowering Jason Momoa in the role of Aquaman. Much like its predecessor before it, Fifty Shades Darker is a romantic drama that tends to attract its fair share of critics – critics that would often ridicule everything from ham-fisted dialog to the performances of its dual leads, Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan. And that’s before James Foley’s erotic sequel has even slinked into theaters.
Nonetheless, after amassing a record-breaking 114 million trailer views in the first 24 hours after release – higher than even The Force Awakens across the same period – it’d be foolish to overlook the pent-up demand going into Fifty Shades Darker.

For Woody Allen enthusiasts, Amazon’s Crisis in Six Scenes is an enjoyable piece of early autumn fluff. It’s a laissez faire effort, unrigged and unbothered, though one that, at its very best, might be Allen’s most comedically-inspired work since 2011’s Midnight in Paris. But as the auteur’s first venture into television in his storied 40-plus career, it’s certainly not without its faults.
The six-episode comedic mini-series — each written and directed by the filmmaker as busy as he’s nervous — is often clumsy and unsure of itself in its story pacing. It never quite finds its rhythm until the last two episodes, and the first few are a little sluggish and rather excessive at times. You get the sense Allen is mostly reformatting his usual film structure into the popular TV mold, which makes the whole project feel like...

Though he’s not actually in full flaming-skull mode just yet, the first batch of promotional images for the upcoming season 4 premiere of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. do provide us with a glimpse of Gabriel Luna (Matador, Wicked City) as Robbie Reyes, who we will see transform into the Spirit of Vengeance at some point.
The stills also feature Agents May (Ming-Na Wen) and Mackenzie (Henry Simmons), who will be heading up some kind of top secret “specialist strike teams”. This has led to speculation that S.H.I.E.L.D.’s counter-terrorist Special Mission Unit, S.T.R.I.K.E., might also be making their debut.

Harley Quinn herself, Margot Robbie has weighed in on the deleted scenes from Suicide Squad – specifically those involving both her and Jared Leto’s Clown Prince of Crime.
Word comes by way of Tipsy Talk (via Cinema Blend), where the so-hot-right-now actress sat down to talk all things Task Force X. Bearing in mind that reports coming out of Warner Bros.’ production have revealed some degree of internal strife, with the studio seemingly pushing ahead with its own alternate cut, Suicide Squad launched late last week into the thick of a social media storm – and that’s before you even factor in the scathing reviews.

Though he wasn’t initially part of David Ayer’s Suicide Squad, when Tom Hardy bowed out to accommodate The Revenant‘s prolonged production, House of Cards star Joel Kinnaman jumped at the opportunity to enlist in Warner Bros.’ nuthouse.
He’ll be playing Rick Flag, a grizzled, elite soldier working under the black ops unit that birthed Task Force X. That places Kinnaman in close proximity to Amanda Waller, as the pair help get the unhinged squad members out of Belle Reve and onto the streets of Midway.
