Lee Shargel was born in the Bronx, New York during a time when the melting pot of diverse cultures was influencing his future. His neighborhood, which was a mixture of Italian, Puerto Rican, African American, Spanish and Eastern European gave rise to numerous stories both real and imagined about the homeland. It was a great time to be a New Yorker. After graduating from Taft High School he went on to attend CCNY where he studied girls, music and a variety of other subjects. He loved writing the scripts, casting his friends, and shooting his short films with his 8mm Bell and Howell movie camera. As much as he enjoyed making movies, he enjoyed writing more. He ventured into magazine contribution and wrote stories for a variety of publications . Then he wrote his first novel. Voice in the Mirror. It is a sci-fi novel that had a very good run. His next literary adventure was the script for Beyond the Facade. A thriller that he also directed. Next came The Christmas Siren a novel and screenplay which had little success. His determination, a product of his Bronx upbringing, never faltered. Next came an invitation by Sir Richard Attenborough to be a contributor for his upcoming collectible book honoring the centennial of motion pictures, !00 Years of Moving Pictures, which was a resounding success. His contribution of an interview with Steven Spielberg, George Lucas and Brad Silberling was the centerpiece of the book. As was his treatise on the future of science fiction in cinema.
Lee ventured into acting with his wife, actress, Danae Mckillop, and enjoyed his limited time on screen. His real passion was writing and he always seemed to gravitate back to that genre. His latest book, Fireman Down, will be released in 2021.
