Alvaro Zendejas
- Visual Effects
- Producer
- Director
Canadian filmmaker and visual effects artist, Alvaro learned nonlinear digital media at a very early age during the mid 90s. At 17 he got his first industry job as a video switcher on a local cable news channel. There, he read studio manuals and documentation detailing international video and film standards, technical aspects of video formats, compression and transmission.
In the early 2000s, during his time in college earning his Communications degree, he took classes in filmmaking and literature, which prompted him to direct his own short films and submit them to film festivals. His knowledge of visual effects and film standards made his work stand out, leading to film festival acknowledgments and awards. At 23 he became the first nominee for the Mexican Academy Award for a filmmaker from his city of birth: Tijuana, Mexico. After a string of successes in the film festival circuit, finding work as a filmmaker became difficult. This prompted Alvaro to fall back on his knowledge of visual effects and 3D animation to freelance and teach at colleges in 2009.
In 2015 he successfully immigrated to Canada, where he worked in 3D conversion at Gener8 for mainstream Hollywood films like Hunger Games, Batman v Superman, Wonder Woman, The Justice League, Avengers: Endgame, Aquaman, Wonder Woman 1984 and digital asset management on films like Scream 5 and TV series like Halo and Obi-Wan Kenobi.
In 2022 he founded Sockland Productions Incorporated, utilizing his close to two decades experience in onset production and post-production; the first mayor project being his animated feature film debut: Sockland.
