Steve began his career in comedy as a stand up before finding notoriety as lounge cabaret performer Lenny Beige. After a Channel 4 show and 2 BBC TV series of Lenny Beige's Variety Pack Lenny Beige's Variety Pack (2000) Steve began to branch out into other character roles devising a few solo Edinburgh shows. In 2000 he began to appear in the award winning Orange Wednesday cinema commercials, largely directed by Bryan Buckley Bryan Buckley There were around 30 commercials featuring names as diverse as Snoop Dogg Snoop Dogg , Carrie Fisher Carrie Fisher, Patrick Swayze [name=nm0000664], Angelica Huston [name=nm0001378] , Spike Lee Spike Lee. He also appeared as a regular supporting actor in all three series of Little Britain Little Britain (2003) with Matt Lucas Matt Lucas and David Walliams David Walliams.
He has appeared in many TV shows including (as a semi-regular Mr James) Holby City Holby City (1999), Doc Martin Doc Martin (2004), Toast of London Toast of London (2012), Friday Night Dinner Friday Night Dinner (2011), and most recently as the villain in CITV's new kids show Spy School.
