W. Stephen Gilbert was born on May 20, 1947 in Northampton, Northamptonshire, England as William Stephen Gilbert. A writer, script editor and producer, he is known for his work on Play for Today (1971), King of the Ghetto (1986), The Other Side (1979) and Minder (1991). He wrote the first literary biography of the television playwright Dennis Potter, Fight & Kick & Bite (1995) and the first biography of Jeremy Corbyn, Accidental Hero (2015), as well as a novel, Spiked (1991) . As a journalist, he has written about film, broadcasting and theatre for dozens of publications on both sides of the Atlantic over fifty years.
