Despite working together, not all actors have the same experience when working on a project and this couldn’t be more true for Orlando Bloom and one actress with whom he worked together in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. Of course, we are talking about Keira Knightley, who recently expressed how tumultuous her experience was shooting for the films and the aftermath.

The Pirates of the Caribbean franchise is going through major shake-ups. As it stands, a lot is still on the plank (there’s a reason we update this article so often): Will Johnny Depp reprise Jack Sparrow or will the series sail in a new direction completely? When can we even expect Pirates 6? Who of the original cast actually wants to return? On that last one, Keira Knightley (Elizabeth Swann) seems the most hesitant…and co-star Orlando Bloom sees where she’s coming from.
Last year, Keira Knightley said that she has mixed feelings about the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, saying they gave her good opportunities but also put her in a position where she was constantly being knocked down. “It’s a funny thing when you have something that was making and breaking you at the same time. I was seen as sh*t because of them…...

The Lord of the Rings stars Liv Tyler and Orlando Bloom were long rumored to be dating when they starred together in Peter Jackson’s epic fantasy trilogy. While both played Elves, the two were not paired together in the film. Tyler’s Arwen was betrothed to Viggo Mortensen’s Aragorn while Legolas was part of the Fellowship of the Ring.
However, after years of speculation, Liv Tyler shut down the rumors of dating the Pirates of the Caribbean star, stating that she was engaged to her first husband at the time. Appearing in an interview, Tyler addressed the rumors and mentioned that she was off-market but did admit in passing that they flirted.

The Katy Perry who last toured eight years ago was a much different person than the Katy Perry hitting the road this year.

She judged American Idol for seven seasons, dropped two albums, and hosted 80 shows for her successful Play residency. But also: “You know, every seven years, all of your cells regenerate,” she tells Rolling Stone with a wink. “I’m a whole, actual, biological, physical different person! "Star Trek: Section 31" takes the franchise on a road less traveled by bringing back "Star Trek: Discovery" standout Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) and putting her in charge of a heist. Unlike the "Star Wars'" take on the heist movie theme in 2016's "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," the often more idealistic and pacifistic "Trek" opts for a far more light-hearted route. "Star Trek: Section 31" is B-movie trash in the best possible way, as the Academy Award winning Yeoh rocks her fallen tyrant character's new role as the head of arguably the most ragtag team a "Star Trek" project has ever given fans.
Among the key members of the film's Section 31 special ops team is the unpredictable and intense Fuzz, who probably wouldn't be a main character in just about any other "Star Trek" film. Fuzz is played by South African actor Sven Ruygrok, a rising star who's been making...

She has been acting since 1987, and over a nearly four-decade career, Juliette Lewis is known for playing a crazed murderer (Oliver Stone’s Natural Born Killers), a pastor’s daughter on the run from vampires (Robert Rodriguez’s From Dusk Till Dawn) and a teen fending off a violent rapist (Martin Scorsese’s Cape Fear). She’s also been a rock star in real life as the lead singer of Juliette Lewis and the Licks.

Turns out, we’ve been cheering for the wrong heroes in The Lord of the Rings all along. Sure Frodo and Aragorn stole the ultimate limelight, J.R.R. Tolkien himself pointed to a less glam, but far more heroic, character.

Tolkien’s revelation broke the mold on who truly deserved the very title. The quiet endurance of this unsung figure didn’t just support the Fellowship; it saved the day.

Men in suits of armor. Courtly romance. Raging bouts of plague and pillaging. All these and more are the hallmarks of a good old-fashioned medieval movie. So many of our most enduring legends have their start in the Middle Ages, from King Arthur and Knights of the Round Table to Robin Hood, and for good reason -- their classic tales of adventure and noble battles for justice have won over audiences for hundreds of years.
Although adventures are never in short supply, whether our heroes are off fighting in the Crusades, waging a seemingly endless war in France over the right to rule France, or battling smaller tyrannies on the home front, films set in medieval times aren't just limited to the action genre. Some major shockers about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s royal exit have been revealed to the world courtesy of Vanity Fair.
The magazine recently examined the past five years of their lives since stepping down as working royals in January 2020.
Prince Harry And Meghan Markle’s Netflix And Spotify Deals Are A Flop
The couple signed major deals with Netflix and Spotify. However, the burning question remains: how will they make money when their well of stories and lies about the royal family run dry?
Not much came out of their obscene 100-million-dollar Netflix deal besides their docuseries about their love story, released in December 2022.
Harry’s “Heart of Invictus” was inspired, but it fell flat and didn’t earn enough dough for the streaming giant.
Meghan’s animated series, “Pearl,” was unceremoniously dropped in May 2022. Other Archewell Productions supposedly in the works, like the film adaptation of Carley Fortune’s novel,...

When it comes to cinematic adaptations of beloved PlayStation games, so far we've enjoyed a mixed bag. HBO's The Last Of Us series ranks among the great TV shows of the millennium thus far; Sony's Uncharted movie with Tom Holland certainly ranks among the films that were released in February 2022; and Neil Blomkamp's Archie Madekwe/Orlando Bloom/David Harbour led Gran Turismo is, well, actually probably a bit better than it gets credit for honestly. And after our first look at David F. Sandberg's take on survival horror game Until Dawn caused no small measure of discourse about how much you can change a game and still keep its title for your movie earlier this week, a new, full trailer for the time loop chiller has just dropped. Check it out below:
Wendigos are in. Ski chalets are still out. But Until Dawn looks... pretty good, actually. Sure,...

Looking ahead to 2025, here are the 45 films of all genres – from horror to comedy to drama and more – we reckon you really shouldn’t miss.
Special mentions:
Firstly, the movies you won’t be seeing, but want to namecheck. Our rules were that we didn’t want to include films that had screened, but not made it to the UK yet (with the exception of British films). Hence – sorry Kevin – the next Horizon film isn’t on the list. There’s stuff we’re watching for release dates too: Above The Below, Mother’s Pride, All Of You, and such like. We acknowledge too that there’s a Michael Jackson biopic that you won’t find below. Plus superhero films that don’t really need our help, so we limited ourselves to one or two of those.
Instead, here’s the 45 films firmly on our radar for 2025…

A medieval Ridley Scott movie fails to impress a historian with its depiction of a battle. The director has built a reputation for creating epic, visually striking films, often set against vast historical backdrops. Scott and his movies have tackled various historical eras, from ancient times to the 1980s and 1990s. From Gladiator to House of Gucci and Gladiator II, his films often explore themes of power, duty, and moral conflict, set within tumultuous periods of history.
As Scott’s filmmaking journey progressed, his interest in depicting large-scale military conflicts and action scenes intensified. For example, 2021's The Last Duel covered certain pivotal moments within medieval France, while the long-awaited sequel Gladiator II furthered his exploration of ancient Rome. The latter film was just released in November 2024 after a great deal of anticipation, and though it was met with somewhat mixed reviews, several heralded it as a demonstration of Scott's talent with historical epics.

In a field of actors endowed with a dozen different skill sets, only Andy Serkis could have pulled off two of the most radically revolutionary roles that forever changed the face of cinema. Fortunately, the actor’s arrival in Hollywood perfectly coincided with Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and the latest Planet of the Apes film series.

His creative and technical contributions to both franchises helped make them become critically and commercially successful. There's only one way for the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise to move forward if Johnny Depp isn't returning for the sixth movie. The first Pirates of the Caribbean film was surprising when it was announced, as it was based off a theme park ride. However, 2003's Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl was a massive success upon its release. Part of the reason The Curse of the Black Pearl was so successful was because it featured the debut of Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow, a reckless but extremely charismatic pirate.
Depp has returned for every Pirates of the Caribbean movie since, and has made Jack Sparrow one of the most iconic movie characters of all time. However, the franchise's future has been uncertain since 2017's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. The upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean 6 has been confirmed to be in development,...

Orlando Bloom once ruled Middle-earth with a bow, a quiver, and the silkiest blonde hair ever seen on screen. But after a $956M film, he decided to peace out from The Lord of the Rings universe faster than Frodo bolting from Mordor. No more Legolas, no more elf drama, he was done. Or so we thought.

When it comes to works of fantasy adaptation, The Lord of the Rings trilogy remains one of the most acclaimed and beloved. Peter Jackson directed all three installments, which were released in theaters between 2001 and 2003. The three movies, which serve as adaptations of the book series by author J.R.R. Tolkien, were all critically and commercially successful, and Jackson would ultimately return to the world of Middle-earth with his less successful Hobbit trilogy in the 2010s.
The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring was the movie that started it all, introducing Elijah Wood as Frodo and kicking off his quest to destroy the One Ring in the fires of Mount Doom. Did Orlando Bloom lose 10 pounds for The Cut? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Yes, it was a transformation so intense that he describes it as his body “shutting down.” Playing a down-and-out boxer who has to lose 30 pounds in a week to qualify for a title fight, Orlando Bloom’s journey to embody the character of Boxer required serious physical and mental commitment. “My brain was dead,” he told Entertainment Weekly, recalling the toll of the transformation at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival.
Shooting in reverse chronological order, Bloom started the film at his lightest weight, but by the end of production, his body was exhausted. The weight loss process was brutal, and as Bloom recalled, it wasn’t just physical. “It was actually more mentally than physically” challenging. The lack of sleep and constant calorie depletion made everything harder, especially when he had to prepare for extreme weight cuts.
The moment that shocked even him?...

A Ridley Scott military action movie receives a high accuracy score from a weapons expert. Alien was his breakout hit and is often considered to be one of Ridley Scott's best movies. He followed up Alien with Blade Runner, another movie that would become a science-fiction classic. Scott made his mark on other genres in the ensuing years with a variety of hits, including the crime drama Thelma & Louise and the historical epic Gladiator.
In 2012, he directed his first Alien movie since the original with the divisive prequel Prometheus, along with directing its 2017 sequel Alien: Covenant. His 2015 movie The Martian was well-received and offered a more hopeful story within the science-fiction genre. Scott's enthusiasm for historical movies remained as strong as his enthusiasm for science-fiction with his direction of The Kingdom of Heaven, The Last Duel, Napoleon, and Gladiator II.

Some will argue that Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides is not the worst Pirates of the Caribbean movie, but it does rapidly introduce characters who disappear from the franchise after the one-off adventure's end. The initial Pirates of the Caribbean trilogy has defined parameters. After the conclusion of the trilogy's main storyline and the departure of Orlando Bloom's Will Turner and Keira Knightley's Elizabeth Swann, Disney was challenged with coming up with a fresh new story, preferably with sequel potential, with Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush's Hector Barbossa still on board.
Penélope Cruz as Angelica was wasted; she could have carried a new era of Pirates of the Caribbean alongside Captain Jack, but the disappointing reception of On Stranger Tides led to another soft reboot and most of the characters from the fourth installment being dropped. Did Orlando Bloom reject Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides? ( Photo Credit – Facebook )
Despite the franchise making bank and topping $1 billion, Orlando Bloom wasn’t feeling On Stranger Tides. Instead, he wanted to chase different adventures. “I just really wanted to do different things,” Bloom explained to MTV News in 2010. “But I think it’s going to be great.” Classic Orlando, right?
Now, before you start assuming drama, it wasn’t anything juicy behind the scenes. Bloom wasn’t fighting with Johnny Depp or hashing out contract drama. Nope. He just felt like Will Turner had sailed his course. “I had a great time making those movies,” he added, casually mentioning that Will was probably “swimming around with the fish at the bottom of the ocean.” If that’s not a pirate-level exit line, I don’t know what is.

Zoe Saldaña is one of our best blockbuster actresses — and she's got the receipts to prove it. In the last decade plus, she's played Uhura in the rebooted "Star Trek" films, Neytiri in James Cameron's "Avatar," and Gamora in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. No matter how natural or made-up her character appears, she brings her A-game. (No wonder she was disappointed that her "Avatar" part felt overlooked.)
Her first blockbuster was "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," which unexpectedly turned one of Disney's most famous theme park rides into a successful movie. Saldaña plays Anamaria, a supporting character and a member of the pirate crew recruited by Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) and Will Turner (Orlando Bloom) on Tortuga. Anamaria introduces herself by slapping Captain Sparrow and yelling that he previously stole her ship, which he amends to "borrowed without permission."

Ideas of what constitutes the ideal vacation range from tracking gorillas to collapsing on the beach with a Negroni, but one thing is clear: whatever the preference, festive week is an excuse for nearly everyone to escape work and put projects on hold while they regroup and reenergize.

Moana 2 Box Office (North America): Beats The Lord Of The Rings: The Two Towers (Photo Credit – Instagram/Netflix)
Moana 2 is unaffected by the release of Mufasa: The Lion King, another Disney movie. Although Mufasa seems to be heading for an underwhelming debut at the US box office, Dwayne Johnson’s movie has surpassed the domestic haul of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers. The film, however, had weaker legs than Wicked. Scroll below for more.
Two new movies have arrived at the theatres – Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Mufasa: The Lion King this Friday. However, the exhibitors did not predict much impact on the Moana sequel because of them. Its biggest competition is Wicked, as it managed to take away the #1 spot from the Disney sequel several times at the US box office.

Harry and Meghan are surrounded by famous people in Montecito, and they are all searching for one thing: privacy. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are certainly able to live a much more private life than they could in the UK, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t paparazzi trying to capture images of the couple every chance they can.

Paper-thin characters and a derivative plot make this Lord Of The Rings anime into a flashy legal exercise. Here’s our The War Of The Rohirrim review.
A film which exists to settle Warner Bros’ Lord Of The Rings development obligations, War Of The Rohirrim – an anime-inspired epic set 183 years before Peter Jackson’s trilogy –is a 134-minute accounting exercise. That isn’t necessarily a problem; in a year when 14 of the top 15 highest-grossing movies worldwide are sequels of one form or another, sometimes we just have to take the blockbusters we’re given.
Sometimes, however, the business case for a film so obviously outweighs its artistic merit it proves too distracting to ignore. As Blade Runner: Black Lotus director Kenji Kamiyama’s adaptation of another J R R Tolkien appendices settles in to reproduce its fourth or fifth plot point from The Two Towers, it’s hard not to...

We’ve known for a while that Disney is developing a new ‘Pirates of the Caribbean,’ don’t we? That is, one that’s different from the rumored Margot Robbie-led one that gained no steam. Already, there are talks it will be more feminist-inclined than the original – though fans are still struggling to understand what that means.

Keira Knightley is getting candid about the negative side of fame, especially in her early 20s when she recalled being “stalked by men.”
The Oscar-nominated actress looked back at her early acting career days during a recent interview with the Los Angeles Times, including the scrutiny and body-shaming she faced from being in the public eye at such a young age.
“It’s very brutal to have your privacy taken away in your teenage years, early 20s, and to be put under that scrutiny at a point when you are still growing,” Knightley said. “Having said that, I wouldn’t have the financial stability or the career that I do now without that period. The upcoming "The Hunt for Gollum" movie from Warner Bros. has been stirring up interest and intrigue from the moment it was announced earlier this year. Overall, the reaction has been positive, and there has been a general buzz as news leaked that the movie will be directed by Andy Serkis and have Peter Jackson and other Middle-earth alumni on board. Though Peter Jackson directed the acclaimed trilogy based on J.R.R. Tolkien's beloved fantasy novels, Boyens and Fran Walsh were crucial to making the movies happen, and the trio now comprises the brain trust responsible for the franchise's future. The next Middle-earth project they oversee with be Andy Serkis' The Hunt for Gollum, a film that takes place during the events of The Fellowship of the Ring.
During a recent interview with The Playlist to promote the release of The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim, on which she is a producer, Boyens reveals new details about The Hunt for Gollum and Aragorn's role. Was Tom Hiddleston almost cast as Will Turner? (Photo Credit – Facebook)
A hangover and zero prep sent Tom Hiddleston’s Pirates of the Caribbean audition straight to Davy Jones’ locker. Hiddleston shared how he tanked his shot at the 2003 classic The Curse of the Black Pearl in the Shakespearean doc Muse of Fire. The night before his big audition? He was out celebrating a friend’s college win—hard. The next morning? Hangover Central, and, oh yeah, I have no clue what the script was about. When the casting director asked why, Hiddleston admitted he got the script the night before. The response? A frosty, “[The casting director] was like, ‘Uh-huh. Well, thanks for coming in.”
The role of Will Turner, Elizabeth Swann’s swoon-worthy blacksmith-turned-pirate, went to Orlando Bloom, fresh off The Lord of the Rings. Bloom crushed it, but Hiddleston took the loss like a pro. “Orlando Bloom is Orlando Bloom.

Ariana Grande is easily one of the hottest topics in Hollywood’s entertainment industry at nearly all times, whether it be for her incredible vocals, remarkable acting, concerning health and physique, or simply her relationship with her fans. That said, the recent reason behind her stealing the limelight was something close to the lattermost point as well.

During one of the recent events held to promote her ever-raging blockbuster musical fantasy Wicked, Grande was met with what is being deemed a rather creepy fan interaction. This is because while the Stuck With U singer tried her best to be super nice to her fans, even going around saying ‘I love you’ to everyone, a fan really caught her off-guard with his creepy response.

Ridley Scott made a triumphant return to the top of the box office and added to his lengthy list of historical epics with Gladiator II, but where it ranks among the best movies from his decades-long career is a point of debate. The historical inaccuracies in Gladiator II did little to discourage moviegoers from seeing the long-awaited sequel in theaters, and its early box office haul put Ridley Scott into elite company among directors. While reviews indicate that Gladiator II is unlikely to be counted among Scott's very best movies, it's still an entertaining and worthy follow-up to its predecessor.
Since making his feature film directorial debut in 1977, Ridley Scott has tackled a number of different genres, and has become the gold standard for several of them. Scott is particularly famous for tackling historical epics (like Gladiator and Gladiator II) that require time, patience, and attention to detail. However, despite being 87 years old,...

Fantasy films are well regarded for their ability to transport the viewer into an entirely new world, working outside the laws of reality. This type of speculative fiction focuses on relatable human themes while adding fantastical elements throughout the narrative—including unique magic systems, daring quests, and a variety of mythical creatures. With never-ending material to work with, it's no surprise that many top-rated fantasy movies are now considered masterpieces.
While fantasy films that garner high acclaim often offer something new or unique to the genre, some of the best know how to combine both a compelling and intriguing plot with high-stakes action. This element, if not done correctly, can cause a fantasy movie to fail. Too much heavy focus on the dynamics of the fight sequences risks foregoing the overall narrative. There needs to be a careful balance between both elements and thankfully, there are several fantasy movies that...
