Hit-Monkey continues to walk the vigilante path less traveled. While other heroes trade banter in slick suits, this show honors the violent grit pioneered by films like Oldboy and martial arts classics like Drunken Master. Dark humor cuts through the carnage, recalling Tarantino at his pitch-black best.
Season 2 delves deeper into what fuels a life of violence. Monkey confronts his own “family business” legacy through a crisis of conscience glimpsed in similarly nihilistic animation like Primal. Bryce’s redemption arc nods to fallen antiheroes from The Dark Knight to Breaking Bad. New characters like Eunice bring levity, further separating this show from the gleaming MCU while expanding representation in the genre.
Through intricately animated mayhem and nuanced character journeys, Hit-Monkey remains that rare comic adaptation unafraid to color outside the lines. While some question its direction, true aficionados see how honorably it carries the torch of transgression lit by mangas...

Movie buffs are debating whether the announcement of a remake of the iconic Western A Fistful of Dollars is a good idea. The 1964 original directed by Sergio Leone is credited with launching Clint Eastwood’s career and helping define the Spaghetti Western genre. With its iconic visuals and music, many think it’s a classic that shouldn’t be touched.
It’s becoming pretty common for Hollywood to redo older movies, but the results are mixed. Some remakes find new fans, while others fail because they can’t live up to the original. Studios seems to prefer rehashing old ideas instead of funding new stories.
A Fistful of Dollars in particular is praised for Leone’s unique storytelling style and the tense atmosphere he created. Plus, Ennio Morricone’s incredible score is just legendary. Leone’s “Dollar trilogy” of films is revered, so can any remake really compare?

The idea that there is life beyond Earth is a commonly held belief. For director Gino McKoy, conversations with friends and family helped spur his willingness to investigate extraterrestrial phenomena. His new feature, Lumina, hit theaters on July 12th, 2024, and hopes to increase conversation about the topic. Lumina stars Eric Roberts, one of Hollywood’s hardest-working actors and a veteran of big and small-budget movies alike. McKoy and Roberts sat down with FandomWire to open up about Lumina and its importance in the discourse.

Eric Roberts remains one of the hardest-working actors in Hollywood. After breaking through in the mainstream with Bob Fosse’s Star 80, he became a character actor in the years that followed.

In Deadpool & Wolverine, Ryan Reynolds' Merc with the Mouth is told by the Tva that when Wolverine was killed in 2017's Logan, the "anchor" of his reality also died. That means Earth-10005 is eventually going to fade into nothingness.
Rather than lose his friends and family, Wade Wilson steals Tva tech and hops between realities to find a suitable replacement.
Along the way, he crosses paths with many Wolverine Variants and we're taking a closer look at all of those revealed in the recent 35-minute preview screening. Marvel Studios has likely made some clever edits to maintain the movie's biggest surprises, perhaps explaining why each of the Variants listed below is played by Hugh Jackman.

The X-Files Season 11 was a terrible misfire from Fox. The network has had trouble in creating a decent TV show of late. Fox is notoriously known for their cancelation of fan-favorite shows and instead greenlighting average to bad shows. As the network looks to rebuild its legacy, one show’s revival could be the saving grace for Fox in the television industry.

Clint Eastwood has had a monumental career spanning generations with many memorable films over the years. Oscar-winning actor Forest Whitaker has had a long and celebrated acting career though initially he aspired to be an opera singer. He enrolled at the University of Southern California to study opera but then changed his major to acting and graduated from the school with a Bfa in Drama.
While still enrolled in college, Whitaker began acting professionally. His first film role came in a movie called “Tag: The Assassination Game,” which starred Robert Carradine and Linda Hamilton. That same year he would get a small role in a movie about high school students that would become a classic. He joined a cast of unknown actors including Sean Penn, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Judge Reinhold and Phoebe Cates in “Fast Times at Ridgemont High.” The film was a bit of a sleeper hit in 1982 but became a classic through repeated showings on cable TV.

Actor Martin Delaney has stepped into the shoes of a tech visionary in the new film “The Man Who Saved the Internet With a Sunflower.”
Delaney portrays Robert Ryan, the founder of Ascend Communications who played a crucial role in the early days of the internet. The film has already garnered critical acclaim, recently winning the Competition Features Audience Award at the Dances With Films festival.
The film chronicles Ryan’s journey from humble beginnings to becoming a key player in Silicon Valley during the 1980s and ’90s. It focuses on Ryan’s development of the “pizza box” modem, which revolutionized internet access by offering faster speeds at half the price of competitors. This innovation allowed struggling internet service providers to stay afloat and ultimately led to Ascend’s meteoric rise in the tech industry, culminating in its sale to Lucent Technologies for $24 billion in 1999.

In addition to being an accomplished actor, Eastwood is also a talented filmmaker who has made a diverse range of films that have won Oscars. At 94, he is still making films and refuses to slow down.

Sergio Leone's "A Fistful of Dollars" is not the greatest Spaghetti Western ever made, but it is widely considered to be the first. As the film that made Clint Eastwood an global movie star, it is inarguably the most significant. Most importantly in today's movie marketplace, people who've never seen a Spaghetti Western likely know the title, which makes it a viable candidate for a remake.
And this is fitting because "A Fistful of Dollars" is itself a remake. In fact, it was such a brazenly beat-for-beat copy of Akira Kurosawa's 1961 samurai classic "Yojimbo" that U.S. distributors wouldn't release Leone's film until the filmmaker settled up with the Japanese master and his backers at Toho (Kurosawa wound up making more money off this deal than he did with "Yojimbo").
Of course, "Yojimbo" wasn't an original either. Kurosawa openly acknowledged that his film was inspired by Stuart Heisler...

You’re not gonna believe this, but they’re remaking one of the most legendary Westerns of all time – A Fistful of Dollars! The 1964 film that made Clint Eastwood a star is getting updated for a new generation.
Some producers in Italy and England are teaming up to do a new version of the story. Sergio Leone’s original was so iconic that it basically invented the “spaghetti Western” genre. They’re saying they want to honor how great that original movie was.
This has certainly got people talking! Some think remaking such a classic is just asking for trouble. Eastwood’s performance is just untouchable. Plus, the 1960s era gives it a really cool vibe a remake might mess up.
On the other hand, Westerns have been super popular lately with shows like Yellowstone. And movies like Kevin Costner’s Horizon prove audiences still love the genre. So a...

On the other hand, Westerns have been super popular lately with shows like Yellowstone. And movies like Kevin Costner’s Horizon prove audiences still love the genre. So a...

A few years ago, we heard that a TV series adaptation of one of the greatest Westerns ever made, the 1964 Sergio Leone / Clint Eastwood classic A Fistful of Dollars, was in the works at Mark Gordon Pictures. That project, which was described as a “contemporary retelling of the story,” has never made it into production – but it looks like we’re going to be getting a new version of A Fistful of Dollars nonetheless. Deadline reports that Euro Gang Entertainment, the company founded by producers Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman, is working with Enzo Sisti of Fpc and Jolly Film, which produced A Fistful of Dollars, to get a feature film remake off the ground.
Deadline notes, “It’s still early in the process so production details are under wraps for now. This would most likely be English-language but that hasn’t been confirmed by the team and a writer,...

Striking the balance between harsh vibes and exceptional cinema, I’m pleased to announce our next program at the Roxy: The Film Stage has teamed with Chapo Trap House‘s Movie Mindset for Fidelio, a one-week, four-film program on the 1%’s malevolent influence, deep-state connections, and sexual corruption (fun edition).
It begins with Saturday, August 3’s double-bill of Abel Ferrara’s Welcome to New York and a 25th-anniversary presentation of Eyes Wide Shut on 35mm; the following week brings prints of Clint Eastwood’s delightfully absurd (or not?) potboiler Absolute Power and Roman Polanski’s late-career triumph The Ghost Writer. Each title has at least one encore, and in a couple cases represents first theatrical showings in recent history. Just remember the password.
The Film Stage readers and Chapo listeners receive a discounted $12 ticket with mention of our program at the Roxy’s box office. (Don’t be shy––their employees are very nice.

Sergio Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, starring Clint Eastwood, is set for a remake now in development from Euro Gang Entertainment.
The classic film, directed by Leone in 1964, created the “spaghetti Western” and was itself a remake of Akira Korosawa’s 1961 film Yojimbo. The latest version will come from Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horseman’s Euro Gang Entertainment and Italian production partner, Enzo Sisti and Fpc S.r.l., and Rome-based Jolly Film, the film’s original producer and distributor.
Leone’s A Fistful of Dollars, about a drifting and detached gunfighter who plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride and revenge, made Eastwood a star. A Fistful of Dollars was also the first of a trilogy that included For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly, films about the “man with no name” that starred Eastwood.

Fresh off IndieWire’s list of the 100 greatest Westerns, Sergio Leone’s classic Spaghetti Western “A Fistful of Dollars” is getting a remake.
The original 1964 feature, which starred Clint Eastwood as a nameless gunfighter, began a film trilogy that included “For a Few Dollars More” and “The Good the Bad and the Ugly.” Now, “A Fistful of Dollars” is going to be reimagined by the producers behind “The Departed,” “300,” and “The Talented Mr. Ripley.”
Euro Gang Entertainment, founded by Gianni Nunnari and Simon Horsman, will produce the “A Fistful of Dollars” remake, along with Italian producer Enzo Sisti of Fpc and Rome-based Jolly Film, which produced the original movie. The film is expected to be an English-language remake, but no details have been made public yet.
Euro Gang and Sisti recently collaborated on Roland Emmerich’s upcoming Peacock gladiator series “Those About to Die” starring Anthony Hopkins.

Exclusive: Saddle up! One of the great westerns is getting a remake.
Sergio Leone and Clint Eastwood classic A Fistful Of Dollars is set for a movie remake from Euro Gang Entertainment, the company founded by Hollywood vet Gianni Nunnari (300) and Simon Horsman (Magazine Dreams), alongside Italian production vet Enzo Sisti (Ripley) of Fpc, and Rome-based Jolly Film, which produced the original movie.
Hit western A Fistful of Dollars is the story of a wandering gunfighter with no name who plays two rival families against each other in a town torn apart by greed, pride, and revenge.
The film, released in the mid ’60s, helped launch the “spaghetti western” genre and Eastwood’s career (and others including that of composer Ennio Morricone). Its huge success spawned two more films in an iconic trilogy also comprising For a Few Dollars More and The Good the Bad and the Ugly, all starring Eastwood.

France’s Deauville American Film Festival has announced a retrospective gathering 50 U.S. features that have challenged perceptions of the world to mark its 50th anniversary.
The selection ranges from D. W. Griffith’s 1916 silent epic Intolerance to Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, and also includes Ida Lupino’s groundbreaking 1950 rape drama Outrage as well as Spike Lee’s Do The Right Thing. (see full list below)
“Cinema has always made us dream, travel, desire, fantasize, laugh, cry. But how many films have been able to shake up our certainties, question our beliefs, question our prejudices and put our own views into perspective?,” said the festival.
“The Deauville American Film Festival wanted to highlight a selection of 50 films that have changed the way we look at the world,” it continued.

Clint Eastwood, a giant in the film industry, made a rare appearance at his daughter Morgan’s wedding looking distinctly different from his iconic clean-shaven style. The Cry Macho star, known for his towering presence and deep voice, was seen sporting a scruffy beard and slightly messy white hair. The wedding took place on June 15 in Carmel, California. Morgan Eastwood, born to Clint and his ex-wife Dina in 1996, tied the knot with Tanner Koopman. The 27-year-old bride looked stunning as she said ‘I do’ in an intimate ceremony. Clint did not disappoint on the dance floor either–he appeared as...

Have we all figured out the difference between blue and cerulean yet? Because Miranda Priestly may be about to re-enter the building.
Disney is in early development on a sequel to “The Devil Wears Prada,” IndieWire has learned, with the 2006 film’s original screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna in talks to write the script. Wendy Finerman is producing the project.
No deals are in place yet, and it’s too early to tell whether any of the original cast will return. But Puck, which first reported the news, says Meryl Streep is expected to reprise her role as the fashion magazine editor-in-chief Priestly.
Disney had no comment.
Starring Meryl Streep, Anne Hathway, Emily Blunt, and Stanley Tucci, “The Devil Wears Prada” was an adaptation of the 2003 novel by Lauren Weisberger and quickly became a runaway hit, earning nearly $326 million worldwide at the box office against just a $35 million budget.

In 2010 the academy reintroduced the preferential ballot to decide the Best Picture winner. Over the ensuing 14 years, there has been a difference between the winners of that award and Best Director at six Academy Awards ceremonies. Prior to this such splits were fairly rare. Why the change? (Scroll down for our updated 2025 Oscar predictions for Best Director.)
At the Oscars, the winner of Best Picture is determined by a weighted ballot and the outcomes of the other 22 races, including Best Director, are decided by a popular vote. While voters simply select one nominee in those other races, when it comes to Best Picture they are asked to rank all the nominees. If one contender garners more than 50% of the first-place votes, it wins. If, however, no nominee crosses that threshold, the film with the fewest first-place votes is eliminated, with its ballots being reapportioned to the second-place pick. This process...

Many know actor/musician Jeff Daniels for his roles in classic ‘90s films like “Speed” and “Dumb and Dumber,” as well as his Emmy-winning performance as Will McAvoy in the Aaron Sorkin HBO series “The Newsroom.” However, in a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Daniels says he received the greatest camera-acting education during his collaboration with Clint Eastwood on the 2002 mystery thriller “Blood Work.”
Eastwood, notorious for shooting very few takes, if not only one, made Daniels realize preparation and spontaneity are key.
“I do not sit around with casts on any project and talk about our collective journey. I love to make it happen in front of the camera for the first time in take one,” Daniels said. “In Clint Eastwood movies, that’s where I learned it. You get one take, and then Clint’s moving the camera. So that’s where you learn to hit it on one.

Is cinema really gendered? Well, we would like to say no, but reality says otherwise. Although all movies can be enjoyed by both men and women, there are some that are more obviously made for each group.
For example, we know that silly romantic comedies are mostly watched by female audiences looking for love adventures, and hardcore action thrillers are mostly watched by men. But lately, there have been too many movies made for male audiences, and it seems that the creators have forgotten what a perfect male movie should be like.
We're tired of all the modern clichés that famous action actors like Jason Statham and Sylvester Stallone bring to the genre, so let's take a look back and talk about these 5 real old manly dramas.

The legend of Quentin Tarantino is a well-established tale in the annals of cinematic history. When he broke out in the industry, the director’s prowess and unbridled power over creativity and storytelling had been unparalleled since the era of Steven Spielberg, James Cameron, Ridley Scott, and the like.

It was only fair to allow the once-in-a-generation talent to bloom beyond the supervising thumb of studio overlords, whose concerns extended only so far as MPAA ratings and budgetary constraints. Given the stylistic choice of filmmaking that Tarantino would become famous for, scoring a suitable rating would only be the first of many problems faced by Hollywood’s studios.

There are only a few people whose influence on the movie industry can hardly be overestimated. One of them is undoubtedly Clint Eastwood. Over the course of his career, he has managed to become one of the most popular western actors, playing tough heroes.
But westerns are not the only thing he managed to become famous for, in fact all his appearances in different genre movies became iconic and you can never get enough of them. However, there are some films that we like to watch again and again, that’s how brilliant Eastwood is in them.

When Eddie Murphy broke out on Saturday Night Live and made his transition to the big screen, a lot of doors opened for him. The paychecks got higher, the popularity went widespread and a lot of Hollywood elite wanted to dine with him. Oddly enough, some of them didn’t have the kindest words about the profession Murphy chose, namely perhaps the greatest actor of them all, Marlon Brando.
In the wake of 48 Hrs., Eddie Murphy got wind that none other than Marlon Brando wanted to have dinner with him. Sure, Brando was on a hiatus and wouldn’t be making another movie until the tail end of the ‘80s, but that’s still a huge get. In the wake of 48 Hrs., Eddie Murphy got wind that none other than Marlon Brando wanted to have dinner with him. Sure, Brando was on a hiatus and wouldn’t be making another movie until the tail end of the ‘80s, but that’s still a huge get. After one initial dinner, the two ended up hanging out at his famed Mulholland Drive residence, where Murphy couldn’t help but heap praise on his host. Regardless of its importance to the storytelling process, film music is too often an afterthought. There are a variety of theories that composers have as to why, and they’re mostly related to a lack of education. So I’ve decided to take an active stance in educating filmmakers about the role of music in film and the process of how a film score comes into being.
My hope is that by the end of this piece you’ll be more familiar with: A) the history of film music in general, and B) the key composers who have contributed to the development of film music as an art. So—where did this all start?
The Silent Era (1890s-1929) Silent film star Mary Pickford. Somewhere, a pianist is inspired.
During the silent era, films music is provided by each individual theater, either by phonograph or as performed live by flesh-and-blood musicians.

The Western genre was at the peak of its popularity during the 1950s and 1960s, with iconic stars like John Wayne and Clint Eastwood dominating the silver screen. These titans of the Old West rode tall in the saddle, their rugged individualism and stoic determination captivating audiences worldwide. The genre’s heyday saw the release of classics like The Searchers, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, cementing the Western’s place as a staple of American cinema. However, by the 1980s and 1990s, the genre began to wane in popularity, with audiences increasingly flocking...

Eddie Murphy revealed on The New York Times’ “The Interview” podcast that Marlon Brando told him that “acting is bullshit, when Murphy’s star profile was on the rise in the wake of “48 Hrs.” Murphy was a known comedian at the time thanks to his stint on “Saturday Night Live,” but “48 Hrs.” was his first movie role and started his ascent as a film star. “Trading Places” and “Beverly Hills Cop” followed and cemented his status.
“I was having these famous people that I grew up watching on television wanting to have a meal with me,” Murphy remembered about becoming famous in Hollywood. “After ’48 Hrs.’ Marlon Brando calls my agent and wants to meet me. Now I look back and go, ‘Wow, that’s crazy: The greatest actor of all time wants to have dinner with you!’ But back then I just thought, ‘Well, that’s the way...

There is perhaps no genre more American than the Western. Stories of cowboys and the Wild West have captured the screen since the dawn of cinema. The Western has been buried dozens of times in its century-long existence, but each time it has pulled itself out, desperately refusing to die.
Horizon is Kevin Costner's Dream Project
At the end of the last century, we almost witnessed the final death of the genre, but first Kevin Costner's Dances With Wolves and then Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven revived the genre not only for the viewers, but also for the Academy – Dances With Wolves won seven Oscars and Unforgiven won four.
Both Costner and Eastwood, the main cowboys of modern cinema, are still in business. And while the latter is hard at work on his latest film, the former has completed his dream project for which he left one of the most popular series of recent years,...

Eddie Murphy may have just been born uber-confident. From a young age, he knew was gonna make it and, indeed, by just 19, he was already a cast member on “Saturday Night Live.” From there, he would go on to star in comedy hits like “48 Hrs.” and “Trading Places,” which is when he started receiving recognition from his fellow thespians. A recognition he says in a recent interview with The New York Times, he didn’t quite appreciate it at the time.
“I started at maybe around 13, 14, saying that I was going to be famous,” Murphy said. “I’d tell my mother, ‘When I’m famous…’ So when I got famous, it was like, ‘See, I told you.’ I was having these famous people that I grew up watching on television wanting to have a meal with me. After ‘48 Hrs.’ Marlon Brando calls my agent and wants to meet me.

George Roy Hill's "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" arrived at a moment when the Western, the most American of movie genres, was being appropriated by Italian filmmakers and Hollywood-bred revisionists like Sam Peckinpah and Clint Eastwood. Baby Boomer moviegoers were rejecting the old-fashioned white hat/black hat simplicity of their parents' unquestioning era, and finding resonance in the violent, unsentimental depiction of a manifest destiny recklessly pursued and ruthlessly realized. Tonally and thematically, the new Westerns jibed with their counterculture sensibilities.
While "Butch Cassidy & the Sundance Kid" wasn't overtly political, it did appeal to the counterculture audience by teaming one of Hollywood's hottest movie stars in Paul Newman with a ready-to-explode Robert Redford as a couple of carefree outlaws. Hill wisely embraced the aesthetic freedom of the burgeoning New Hollywood revolution, and played directly to his target audience's authority-and convention-flouting tastes. He screwed around with camera placement,...

Few actors have transcended film culture like Kevin Costner. The actor remains one of the best performers of athletic prowess on screen. He also became a mainstay of the Western, eventually transitioning that talent to Yellowstone. The popular TV series provided enough steam for Costner to return to the director’s chair, building an epic series he’s been trying to make for years. With Horizon: An American Saga debuting its first part on June 28th, we revisited the icon’s filmography to highlight his best movies.

The children of two Hollywood icons are set to collide in the darkly comic psycho thriller Clawfoot, which is coming to us from director Michael Day, screenwriter April Wolfe, and Yale Entertainment, the company behind the awesome Becky. Editor’s note: This review was originally published May 19, when the movie world premiered at the Cannes Film Festival. It hits theaters beginning today in previews before going wide Friday.
There can be no doubt if there is one person bound and determined to keep Hollywood’s long history of Westerns alive, it has been Kevin Costner. Ok, well Clint Eastwood too.
And that has been true right from the beginning of Costner’s career, when he played the freewheeling scene stealer Jake in Lawrence Kasdan’s Silverado in 1985. He also made an impression as the title star of 1994’s Wyatt Earp. But his real mark on the genre has been not just as an actor but also as director and producer behind the scenes, first with his Best Picture Oscar-winning 1990 pic Dances with Wolves and 2003’s terrific Open Range with co-star Robert Duvall.
