Terra is one of the three main protagonists in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. He will most likely be a key component in Kingdom Hearts 3.General Spoiler Warning: This post will dive into the events leading up to Kingdom Hearts 3 so beware of spoilers for all previous games.

  • Personality: Terra is the mostly calm, cool, and collected type who wants to protect his friends. He is very trusting and respectful of his authority. However, he is also easily susceptible to and tempted by the Darkness, much like Riku.

Birth by Sleep

Terra is one of the three main protagonists in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep. He served under Master Eraqus as his student. Terra failed the Mark of Mastery exam due to the fact that Master Xehanort secretly interfered with the exam and caused Terra to fail. Master Xehanort spoke to Terra and claimed he could become a Master if he embraced the darkness within him.

During Terra's travels, he usually ended up running across the villains of the worlds that he went to.

After Master Xehanort tricked him into fighting Master Eraqus, Xehanort kills Eraqus while he was still weak. Terra realizes he was being used all along and goes to the Keyblade Graveyard where he reunites with Aqua and Ventus.

Terra fights Master Xehanort and almost wins, but Master Xehanort unlocks his heart and forces it into Terra's body, allowing him to take control of it. 

Kingdom Hearts 2

Terra is only briefly mentioned in Kingdom Hearts 2 as one of the other Keyblade wielders by Xigbar when Sora meets him in the World That Never Was.

Dream Drop Distance

During Sora's nightmare in Dream Drop Distance, Terra appears for a short time to him alongside his friend Aqua. Sora thinks that he sees Riku and Kairi together but when he approaches, it turns out to Terra and Aqua.

During Ansem and Riku's fight, Riku reveals that Ansem reminds him of Terra. Later on, Master Xehanort calls Terra his vessel but doesn't expand on what the fate of him is.

A fragmentary passage

After Aqua defeats the Demon Tower, she sees a vision of Terra for a brief moment. Later on, she chases after what looks to be Terra and Ventus. When she finally reaches them, Terra explains that his heart is connected with the darkness.

Terra warns her to watch out for Xehanort who is looking for Ventus. After Aqua tells him that she has hidden Ventus somewhere, Terra reveals himself as Terra-Xehanort. Terra fights back to stop Master Xehanort from successfully dragging Aqua and Ventus in the Darkness.

Kingdom Hearts 3

Terra is seen on the box art cover of Kingdom Hearts 3. It is likely that he will play a role in the upcoming game. There is speculation that he will become a hero as one of the 7 Guardians of Light. However, it is also possible that he will be one of the villainous 13 Seekers of Darkness given his connection to Master Xehanort.
