Renato Garza Cervera Creates 'Skin' Rugs Depicting Horror Of Gang Violence

A grisly series of hyper-realistic "skin" sculptures depict fallen gangsters and the horrors of gang violence.

These images of "flayed animal skins turned into rugs" are the work of Mexican artist Renato Garza Cervera. He calls the project "Of Genuine Contemporary Beast" and says the bodies are tattooed symbolism of the Mara Salvatrucha (MS-13) and the 18th Street Gang of Los Angeles.

"In a very drastic comparison these rugs would work as piñatas: they represent dark, evil characteristics of a society, which are destroyed in a collective feast at the end of a year," Cervera told Vice.
