Saturday Night Live began its milestone 50th season with a sizable ratings bump. The season premiere, hosted by Hacks Emmy winner Jean Smart, delivered 5.3 million viewers, according to same-day ratings from Nielsen (which don’t include streaming). That’s the best start for an SNL season since 2020 and a 15 percent improvement over the 4.6 million viewers who tuned in for last year’s premiere. Full story.

Viewers appear to be flocking to The Penguin. The HBO series starring Colin Farrell as the DC Comics villain has racked up 10.4 million cross-platform viewers for its series premiere, which debuted Sept. 19. That 11-day figure, according to HBO, is outpacing every other current HBO series over a similar time frame, other than its two biggest ones: House of the Dragon and The Last of Us. Full story.

The hitmaker’s Monsters stayed at No. 1 on Netflix’s global TV charts for a second straight week, earning 19.5 million views (defined as total viewing time divided by running time) and was a top 10 show for the streamer in 89 countries. The show has 31.8 million views since its Sept. 19 release, according to Netflix’s figures. On ABC, Murphy’s 911 (4.93 million viewers) and new series Doctor Odyssey (4.23 million) premiered as the network’s No. 1 and No. 3 shows of the week in total viewers (excluding sports). The final season of 911: Lone Star, meanwhile, opened to 4.9 million multiplatform viewers on Fox, the network’s highest nonsports total of the week. Doctor Odyssey, 911 and FX shows American Sports Story and Grotesquerie have all been fixtures in Hulu’s onscreen top 15 lists since their premieres.

NBCU Tops Media Distributor Ranking
Chalk up one last medal for NBCUniversal‘s Olympics coverage. The Paris games were the primary driver of NBCU jumping from third to first place among TV distributors in August, according to Nielsen's tally on Sept. 24. The company accounted for 13.4 percent of all TV usage in the United States for the August measurement period (which ran from July 29 to Aug. 25), a 3.9-point (41 percent) improvement from July’s media distributor rankings.
