IN COLLABORATION with the Union of Farmers in Palestine, the campaign aims to invite 11 children and 3 women from the West Bank who have ties to the agricultural sector.
This visit will provide the children with a peaceful respite and the chance to meet children from Wales. It will offer them a break from the trauma they endure due to the challenging circumstances of their daily lives.
While the initiative is currently awaiting visa approvals for the children, they are confident that they will be granted. This visit will be an opportunity for the children to learn about farming in North Wales and to engage with young people through the local Young Farmers Club. The organisers are also planning several other activities for the visitors.
One of the campaign organisers, Richard Hughes, explained: “We became acutely aware of the severe difficulties facing farmers in Palestine due to the ongoing situation in the Middle East, and decided to offer a respite to children from farming families.”
Richard added: “We have been in contact with Rula Khateeb, a wife and mother whose family resides in Ramallah. She is the Press Secretary for the Farmers’ Union in Palestine and has connections with the United Nations. Rula was very eager to bring young people here to give them a break from the trauma they experience due to their living conditions.”
Nant Gwrtheyrn is supporting the initiative and has agreed to provide accommodation at a reasonable rate. The funds raised will cover accommodation, maintenance, and travel expenses. The children will stay in Nant Gwrtheyrn Village. All the money raised will be used to organise the visit, with any surplus going to Palestinian causes.
During the week of the Eisteddfod, we will highlight the initiative and encourage people both locally and across Wales to contribute to the cause.
