It has long been a (light-hearted) bone of contention between BBC Look North’s weather presenter Paul Hudson and newscaster Peter Levy that the latter has a gritting lorry named after him.
Sleeter Levy has been out helping to make the county’s roads safer in winter since October 2023, with East Riding Council naming one of the fleet after the popular Look North anchorman. It has been the cause of friendly banter between Peter and Paul since.
Now, it has been announced that Paul is to have a Lincolnshire County Council gritter named in his honour, but its title has yet to be revealed. People have been asked to help come up with the best name for Paul’s lorry, with three of the top contenders so far being Paulthegritterman, Snowfall Hudson and Hudson’s Thawcast, the weatherman recently posted on X.
He said: “Thanks for all your suggestions for my new @LincsCC gritter. There’s been so many. Name will be revealed on Monday’s @looknorthBBC.”
Peter shared the exciting news with Paul on the news programme earlier this week. He said: “We have heard from Lincolnshire County Council that you are going to get your own gritter.”
Paul’s first response was: “You are joking.” Then he punched the air and said: “My goodness me, it’s the best Christmas present ever. I can’t believe it.”
Peter said: “Yes, after all this long time. In the New Year, right at the start of the New Year.”
Early suggestions of names from viewers were Squall Hudson and Rock Salt Hudson. Paul said: “I don’t care what it’s called, it’s mine. Can I drive it?”
The weather presenter said it was something he had always wanted. He asked Peter: “So, can you and me have a competition, with your gritter and my gritter? I love Lincolnshire County Council, can I just say.”
Peter told Paul: “I’ve known you 30 years and I’ve never known you as excited”, to which Paul replied: “Oh, honestly, it’s a weatherman’s dream."
