Spoiler alert: Roxane Gay is not a bad feminist. Nope, not bad. She is a thoughtful feminist. She more interested in making things better for women than being a so called good feminist. Most of all, she is a human feminist.

Bad Feminist is a collection of essays, some of which you may have read on Salon. She takes on many topics including reality TV, movies, books, gender, sex, news media, social media, politics and Scrabble. They are for the most part interesting, informative and entertaining.

So why a bad feminist? Just as it's too much to expect a woman to be the perfect daughter, sister, mother, wife, neighbor, friend, employee or employer, it's too much to be the perfect textbook feminist (if such a thing even exists). We may not be perfect, but we will try and make things better for women, to fight for women, and to call BS on those who degrade and disrespect women.

Now for quiz time. Are these women good or bad feminists and why?

ETA: I just noticed that Roxane Gay is doing Outlander episode recaps. Awesome! I am a card carrying a bad feminist for loving this series. http://nymag.com/author/roxane%20gay/

Danny Tyran To answer your quiz:
I think that as long as those women are truly themselves in what they do (not doing it only because of societal conditioning) and are enjoying what they do and happy in their lives, that's o.k.

Too right Danny.

Deborah Markus Can't wait for my copy to come in at the library!

KatieMc I got lucky, I only had to wait about 3 weeks. Library waiting lists are so unpredictable. Sometimes I am like #27 on the list, and out of the blue I get the "it's available!" notification. Sometimes I sit at the #1 spot for weeks.

It's the weirdest lottery ever! But it makes every day exciting...I love visiting our library's site and checking where I am in line on my holds, placing mental bets as to which one will come in next...

Alix Laing This book really changed my perspective on feminism.... I knew that I was one because of the broad definition but it helped me to get to understanding the different people along with me who called themselves feminists. I think one of the most important things about feminism is realizing just how broad and how many opinions there are inside of it. Roxanne definitely does an impeccable job explaining this.
