“it’s the kind of kiss that inspires stars to climb into the sky and light up the world. The kind that takes forever and no time at all.”
₊˚⊹ᰔ opening thoughts : this was amazing and romantic and everything I hoped for. The story has improved so much from the all-over-the-place mess that began in shatter me. It was just perfect and I loved it so much! I could not put it down and I read it so fast because I just had to know what happened. I’m officially a shatter me fan, yay, time to buy all the books & merch lol!
₊˚⊹ᰔ character breakdown :
╰› juliette ferrars: I honestly love her so much and I’m so proud of her! She has had absolutely phenomenal character development throughout the series and watching her fully come into her power in this one was amazing to read. She devoured the whole thing.

He’s not making his way onto my list of book boyfriends, mind you. At least not yet. I can’t quite find his traumatized, ocd self with an overdose of daddy issues attractive, per se, but I am… interested. However, I do appreciate him as a person. He’s not quite as evil as I thought he was and he has a well rounded character. I really enjoyed this novella; it was well-written and gave a lot of helpful insight on warner’s character. I’d definitely recommend reading this one in between the first and second books!

there’s an adenamak-sized hole in my chest. I’m not sure if I’ll ever be truly okay again.
my expectations for this book were honestly quite low after the mess (sorry <3) that was powerless, but I had some hope that it would be better– and of course, I wanted to have my heart broken. But I regret that decision deeply, as this book didn’t just break my heart. It stomped on it and tossed it in a blender.
despite my mournful state after reading powerful, I still loved it more than I ever thought I would. It was, as Mak would say, a little piece of perfection (yes, he did say that about Adena. No, I'm not crying as I write this). Seriously, this book was so pure and sweet and beautiful. adenamak are simply the most adorable couple. Mak spent his whole life believing he didn’t deserve happiness, or to smile. but Adena comes along, and being with her gives him more joy than he ever thought was possible. I just… I can’t. I cannot.
The quality of writing here has much improved since powerless. I didn’t cringe at all, which makes me even more excited for the second book's release in July. I’m both excited and terrified to see where the plot goes and how Mak will play into Paedyn’s story.
If you enjoyed powerless even a little bit, I highly recommend this little novella. Just make sure to have tissues next to you.

I’m humbled. I thought I would have the same meh feeling about this as I did the author’s other books, and bought it solely for the cover. but boy, was I wrong. this was just about the cutest thing ever.
the reason that axie’s other books were a miss for me was because of the writing style, and unfortunately, that’s usually not something that varies from book to book; an author’s writing is what can make them well-loved or well-hated, because it has a distinct impression or voice. From my previous experiences with axie’s writing, I knew it to be cheesy and a bit stilted, and frankly incapable of writing chemistry or angst. imagine my surprise when the writing style in this book was not only fun, easy-to-read, and flowed remarkably well, but had a sizzling romance (not in regards to spice, obviously, as it’s YA, but in that the chemistry was immaculate).
sori and nathaniel are both, well, extremely hot characters and their moments actually had me silently squealing and cackling. I say this a lot, because I’m a hopeless romantic and almost anything remotely related to romance will make me pass out, but seriously; it was too good! I felt like I was watching a k-drama. the pool scene?? unwell. I loved how nathaniel didn’t force himself onto sori but waited patiently for her and respected her boundaries. They were such simps for each other and I was eating it up.
I also loved the kpop-based plot. The xoxo band members are all cute (youngmin & hyemi spinoff when??) and it was refreshing to have a protagonist who knew what she was doing and how to handle herself while being scrutinized by the media. speaking of awkward and oblivious characters… what do you know, I liked jenny a lot more when she wasn’t suffering from main character syndrome. She was actually really cute. The platonic & familial relationships in this book warmed my heart– sori had such cute relationships with jenny, hyemi, and her mom. we stan!!
–bottom line: this book really is just as cute as its cover <3
