the decade worth of story has its pros and cons: realistic and paced out character growth, progress of career/personal lives at different paces, relationships evolving etc; meanwhile, although the book is of perfect length (went by so fast!), the story leaves you with some blanks of smaller yet influential moments which could give even more depth and understanding of these core characters.
i especially feel that the last point was the reason why i didn't so much care for jack for the most part nor their romantic connection with laurie, whenever present; he felt very much like a main supporting character and the story (including the romance) was always about more about laurie - her feelings, her growth, her journey.
overall, i loved it! can't wait for the two lives of lydia bird to be out in the same us paperback format to devour that as well!...more

sure, some things and side plotlines could have been more thorough, but this whole novel in itself felt like a brief snippet of zuri's (and her family's) life and within this novel, i was okay with that - to see just a brief glimpse into some things during a specific period in zuri's life and fill the rest with my imagination
