And I’m so glad I stumbled across this new to me author because I’m definitely adding her other books to my apocalyptic reads.
This series ticked so many boxes, giving me that adrenaline rush as it went to places I wasn’t expecting to go, from kidnapping to mass murder these characters faced every unthinkable challenge thrown at them in this changed new world.
I grew to love and care about these characters as though they were family and it was hard closing that last page. I felt their losses as though it were my own.
So many losses as greed overcame humanity..
Just a heads up, there is zilch sex in this book, these two characters only share one kiss, I thought I'd be more bothered by this fact than I am, but in reality she had to work on herself due to all her years living in captivity and Liam used all his energy just to keep everyone within their community safe, barely sleeping, never able to let his defences down, every which way you looked at it they were always forever under attack. ...more

The day the world as we knew it ended was the day Hannah was free..When the power went out the door to her prison opened allowing her to escape..But she didn't escape alone, she also freed her captors dog which she aptly named Ghost. He became her silent protector where he slowly overcame his mistrust of people.
It's been 5 years since Hannah was taken leaving behind a husband and small child. She doesn't know if they still live in the house or township they resided in but that's her destination and she will fight tooth and nail to get there.
Her journey wasn't an easy one, you see that guy she escaped is tracking her, he wants her back, and he's very good at getting what he wants.
These books have become my kryptonite, I love the survival aspect of these stories, the terrors which face them, the suspense which keeps me on my toes, the characters which imbed themselves within our very souls as we root for them to reach their safe haven. And this book embodies that perfectly. This ticked all my boxes and then some, exceeding all my expectations.
This series grabbed my heart from the very beginning and has ahold of it still years later.
I was going to leave this and start it on the weekend but I couldn’t help myself, so on Friday the 13th there I sat, coffee in hand and tears on my face. This wrung so many emotions out of me, I felt like I was on a high one minute then the next minute to be plummeted into a low as some characters in this book battled through their emotional struggles, with me battling them also right alongside them.
But even through their struggles this tight knit group of friends uplifted them and surrounded them with love.
Even though this was a short novella it packed a big punch of feels, I giggled, I cried and I swooned as mayhem and chaos walked hand in hand delivering an unputdownable story....more

The author came out guns blazing with the last book, more angst, more heartbreak, more heat.
I loved this trilogy and will be one I’d definitely reread again. Highly recommend this series.....more

’THE SUN & HIS HOPE’ is the third book in Pepper Winters ‘The Ribbon Duet' series. It picks up where the second book left off.
Jacob's downfall started occurring when his parents life was made into a movie, seeing it on the big screen of the premiere and re-living the last moments of his father's life had an ever lasting effect on fourteen year old Jacob. It was during opening night that he also met a ten year old Hope, her father had played Ren. He didn't know it at that stage that she would be the bane of his existence. Just like him she'd lost a parent, she had an unhealthy fascination with death and the afterlife, all she wanted in the whole wide world was a friend and she was hoping above all else that Jacob would become her person.
But as the years sped by and she came and stayed on the Wild's farm to find herself and to decide what she wanted in life, she found it odd that she was more at home there with dirt under her nails instead of walking the red carpet, and the the one true thing that never changed and remained the same year after year was the boy who was forever cruel to her, always cold hearted, always closed off, always short tempered, always and forever pushing her away, always running away. Always breaking little pieces of her heart each and every-time. A boy who had become hardened by death.
Love for me? It was a drug I was addicted to. I'd grown up drunk on it with parents I adored. But the blind belief that my world would always be perfect was chipped away piece by piece every time Dad coughed until all that remained was a bleeding heart and the stark understanding that it was simply better not to care. Saner not to bother. Less agonising not to fall.
I feel so freaking drained, I feel like I've been pulled through a hedge backwards, then run over by a mactruck, the many many many hours I spent reading this, and the hours I spent with my heart in tatters over a boy who couldn't love, my heart was broken more times than I could count. My nerves were raw, Beaten, Bruised. Destroyed. This book to put it mildly simply gutted me.
Caskets, cremations, and crying littered my mind, trapping my feelings, caging my love, preventing me from breaking the chains I'd lived within since childhood.
All the feels in the world, the angst, the angst just about killed me, the tears that I kept holding at bay, the constant anger and never ending whip-lash with the too-ing and fro-ing, like a yoyo loving Jacob one minute annoyed at him the next and his one true constant was Hope. The gut wrenching heartache that wanted to claim me, but then above all was the all consuming love I had for this author's words. Hope was just perfect for Jacob one of the strongest, most annoying heroine I've come across, but god I loved her resilience.
She was so free, he was tethered to promises. These characters will forever own a piece of my heart.
A deeply compelling family saga, a truly beautifully written story of love, loss and second chances.
A boy so closed off, afraid to love, Love...that was the most dangerous thing a person could do. to touch, to feel, to lose someone he loves again would destroy him completely, where a cough sends him in a frenzy, thinking death has that person in its clutches. His emotions are on lock down, only one person has the key, and she annoys the sh#t out of him. A battle of tug of war, he pushes, she moves closer, he hates, she loves, these two were utter perfection. A battle of wills ensued from their very first meet.
Best song to listen to whilst reading this!! Love Someone by Lukas Graham ♫ There are days I wake up and I pinch myself You're with me, not someone else And I am scared, yeah, I'm still scared That it's all a dream 'Cause you still look perfect as days go by Even the worst ones, you make me smile I'd stop the world if it gave us time 'Cause when you love someone You open up your heart When you love someone You make room If you love someone And you're not afraid to lose 'em You'll probably never love someone like I do You'll probably never love someone like I do When you say You love the way I make you feel Everything becomes so real Don't be scared, no, don't be scared 'Cause you're all I need And you still look perfect as days go by Even the worst ones, you make me smile I'd stop the world if it gave us time 'Cause when…♫

This took me a few days to read..
I grew to love these characters like they were family, I felt the losses like they were my own, I love how this author focuses on the characters themselves and not making the zombies the focal point, just gives you such a strong connection with the characters and their struggles, their losses, their bonds to non blood people.
Now what to read next, the struggle is real, because even though this author has pulled me out of bookfunks she’s also the cause of a few when nobody else compares to her writing.

Of course it’s another 5 ⭐️ read, this series put me through the wringer, the highs and lows, this series pulled me in from the get go and not once ever let me go..
This one went darker than the two previous books, and even upped the ante on the emotional scale.
This series will definitely not be the last I read by this author.....more
