”you may tell a tale that takes up residence in someone's soul, becomes their blood and self and purpose. that tale will move them and drive them and who knows that they might do because of it, because of your words.”
the ending honestly disappointed me. i expected a lot more from the story. it felt like there was a build up to something bigger than what we ended up getting. and it left me with lots of unanswered questions. and then on top of that romance was very poorly executed. the insta love was not it. i did not care about celiamarco romance. baileypoppet superiority. tbh i didn’t even like marco he sucks. but anyways baileypoppetwidget are my best trio those r my children ❤️...more

my thoughts are mainly just dimamasha dimamasha dimamasha. the only couple that truly matters here.
i expected to give this book a higher rating because the first two parts were 10/10 but idk then the book quite literally lost the plot nothing even made sense or was explained after that point. it was very confusing and weird and made me feel disconnected from the book.
anyways this book was straight vibes and the writing is so pretty. but we can expect nothing less from the olivie blake
p.s. am i the only person that likes roma?? he had potential :(...more

ok now that im done this series im gna rant about a couple of things:
1. STARTING WITH EMILY. this girl has been dead the entire series. we never meet her. BUT SHES SO ALIVE WITHIN THE BOOKS. they talk more about emily than they do about living characters like fucking libby or nash. they constantly talk about her and bring her up it drives me insane. they somehow ALWAYS manage to bring it back to emily. we never met her. i do not care about her. i don’t care about rebeccas storyline with emily and i never have. like that shit literally came out of nowhere. i also don’t care about the thea/rebecca/emily storyline it was boring, it was so underdeveloped. it was so shallow. like genuinely could not give two single fucks about it yet anytime rebecca is in the room, she’s somehow crying over emily. girl we don’t care.
2. xanders character leads to nowhere. he seemed like a promising character at the start but what came of him? essentially nothing. he’s just there for vibes, and his whole crew (rebecca, thea) just there for vibes. not good ones tho.
3. jameson. confusion after confusion after confusion. he talks in riddles every chance he gets. he’s always on about something we don’t care about. he bothers me so much and he always has. his character is the biggest try hard i’ve ever seen. gave me the ick the moment he was introduced.
4. grayson. he’s definitely better than jameson. (in the first two books) i actually felt like his character is more developed. still not much, but he never got on my nerves so that’s a win for him. until he did. she basically ruins his entire character in this book. and for what? bye. so disappointing.
5. imagine if nash and libby were the main characters? sigh my life would have been way easier. avery be involving herself in everybody’s business except her sisters like can you go find out what’s happening in libbys life so i can see the libbynash romance blossom. such wasted potential there.
6. max. BRO IF YOU’RE NOT GONNA CURSE HOW ABOUT USE DIFFERENT VOCABULARY???? or get out of the book. disrespectfully, stop appearing with your weird phrases. in all 3 books, she has ONE normal conversation and it’s when she snaps at avery in book 1 about how she’s selfish. that’s it. every other time its “what the mother faxing elf is this beech?” SHUT.UP. curse or use different words. it’s not that hard you lunatic.
7. avery is the main character but idk how to explain it, she doesn’t serve main character energy. i feel like when we’re in her head we spend way more time on her describing other characters, just narrating what’s happening, her constantly repeating clues and stuff we’re supposed to remember, CONSTANTLY. she sits there replaying scenes that already happened a million times to make sure we remember. there’s never any subtlety. i feel like she just narrates the story but shes such an NPC, and yes, i see the irony in that. anyways, all these books and i feel like i don’t know anything except facts about her. she has nothing interesting going for her, i don’t know how she actually feels about things that are happening. maybe this should have been written in third person tbh idk.
8. and lastly i don’t even wanna waste any words on that stupid love triangle but she gave me a headache. like how do you even like either of them when there’s no spark anywhere? just to take us in mf circles for no reason. any time she’s in a room with jameson or grayson she’s sitting there all like “omg its sizzling in here the tension is crazy” the tension is not in the room with us babes. it’s giving delusion. what a shit romance. all of you should stay single.
and thats me done. not wasting another breath on these books....more

i somewhat liked the beginning and end parts but hated the middle. i actually liked their awkward conversations (at the start) and i liked the way their feelings were described during those periods of their lives.
but for some reason when they were in college i was literally falling asleep. they should have never reconnected after high school. i wasn’t even sure what they felt so drawn to each other for. i felt zero chemistry between them. i don’t even know what they connect on. their conversations have no substance half the time. they never say how they actually feel. i did not care for either of their characters. its just pages and pages of literally nothing going on for nothing to be accomplished.
the writing was weird and confusing to follow. i feel like a big reason i didn’t connect with the story is because there are so many time jumps, and within the time jumps the story isn’t even told in chronological order. for example we’ll jump 3 months, then they’re talking about something that happened a month ago, and then we jump to said scene, then we go back to them discussing it. it was so annoying. it happened every.single.time. just stop jumping through time so damn much just to go back and explain what happened if those periods of time were so important to the story? idek if this makes sense im just rambling atp. and i couldn’t even skim through this just for the dialogue because there are no quotation marks for me to follow it.
anyways im annoyed because i was promised pain and angst, yet i felt nothing but drowsiness.
a wonderful example as to why not all books should be published. in fact, not all thoughts should be written or spoken aloud. negative stars for the ia wonderful example as to why not all books should be published. in fact, not all thoughts should be written or spoken aloud. negative stars for the incest agenda being pushed. i actually felt physically ill reading the book. i know they aren’t actually siblings but THEY don’t know that. and its written in a way like they want the reader to root for this shit. i hate it here omg i cannot continue the series i think me a strong person but i am not strong enough to read more of this. im just gonna skip the rest of this series and read her other shadowhunter books....more
boring, bland, zero chemistry, terrible smut, worse writing.
the beginning was ok, but it honestly went so downhill after the halfway point. the ‘trauboring, bland, zero chemistry, terrible smut, worse writing.
the beginning was ok, but it honestly went so downhill after the halfway point. the ‘trauma’ in the middle gets completely sweeped under the rug and ceases to exist after like one chapter. it felt like it was added just for dramatic effect. the ending felt extremely rushed and underwhelming.
the couple’s build up was so poorly done, i felt absolutely nothing for them. the dialogue was cringe. his name is patrick but her nickname for him is “paddy” … even during sex. and that nickname instantly makes me think of a granny named patty so like no thank yew.

okay so i read this in one sitting in like 3 hours. and had a good laugh. i first laughed at the 2% mark when i read “I will go back to sleep after I okay so i read this in one sitting in like 3 hours. and had a good laugh. i first laughed at the 2% mark when i read “I will go back to sleep after I kill you and use you slowly, you human piece of shit.” i was like okay? this is so not terrifying that its laughable. and all the “villains” speak like this. its like they’re trying too hard to be scary that you just end up laughing at them.
the fmc, callie. she’s this town’s sweetheart. she’s portrayed as a disney princess/barbie mix. she loves animals and feels connected to them. and she looks just like a barbie: blonde hair, blue eyes, perfect figure. she doesn’t curse for some odd reason that’s never explained. so she acts all quirky and says stuff like “holy stars!” and “holy esophagus!” and shes a biologist i guess. she loves to use exclamation points as well! she’s so happy! anyways, i don’t even feel any particular way about her character she’s just there. her character has no depth to her.
the mmc, mendax. oh me oh my. his only personality trait is loving to scare people: ”I’d sooner kill my mother than relinquish the power I held over others and the fear I brought them. Why? Because I could. What did anything matter? The only time I ever felt anything was as I watched another suffer in the pain I caused them. I enjoyed that.” also side note why does he talk like that it makes me laugh so much. so we meet him when callie appears in the fae realm and he’s tryna murder her. he’s tryna find people that can kill her and talking about how he hates her and all other humans. and suddenly he starts talking about how shes so irresistible. two seconds later he’s ready to fuck her. and 30 seconds after that he’s in love with her. whiplash.
the romance was just a hot mf mess. bro they had like (maybe?) one conversation and mans is suddenly all like ”I knew in that very moment I was so deeply in love with her, and she would be the one thing capable of my demise. The weak point in my unbreakable armor. I stared at her, and it scared me to death. It scared me to death what I wouldn’t do for her.” bitch whet?? he starts talking about how he can’t live without her and he would destroy anyone for her. there’s no development in this relationship. chemistry is nonexistent. we go from 0-100 so mf quick it makes no sense.
the writing did not move me in any way. it felt very juvenile. i didn’t connect to anything in here. but this wasn’t a boring bad i zoomed through the book it was a very quick read. it was just also a very silly read. the plot was giving very much walmart version of acotar. and then there’s a (hilarious) twist at the end.
if you ever decide to read this, do yourself a favour and read it as a comedy....more

i am so incredibly disappointed by this book. i love jl seegars and i will read anything she writes because her writing is absolutely beautiful to me.i am so incredibly disappointed by this book. i love jl seegars and i will read anything she writes because her writing is absolutely beautiful to me. but i will say that mal and chris’ story simply dragged on for too long. three books for one couple is just too many.
i found myself irritated while reading many parts of the book. i just feel like chris and mal’s story really did not need this many pages and books. and a lot of the things felt very repetitive from the first two books. also a lot of the things chris would say and do for mal felt the same as before, so it didn’t feel “special.” i’ve connected them to that version of chris, and my subconscious kept waiting for mal to end up heartbroken again after letting him in. it was hard for me to trust that this time he would stay with her. to me, it always feels like he’s one family crisis away from leaving her behind, again.
and i don’t think he grovelled enough. i definitely was not left satisfied. he was crying shaking and dying when she was avoiding him for a month, but he legit left her for 10 years, so….yeah.
”I love him so much, but he scares me. In the 'he has the power to emotionally decimate me' kind of way.”
she let him back into her life way too easily. it made more sense in book 2 because they were grieving over their loss and and vulnerable, but in this book, it surprised me how quick she agreed to continue seeing him and how quickly they got intimate with one another. especially when he left her twice in ten years ...more
i liked seeing some of the dynamics from beyond the veil and some characters’ feelings towards the others, but this could have been way more concise ai liked seeing some of the dynamics from beyond the veil and some characters’ feelings towards the others, but this could have been way more concise and to the point. it did not need to be over 500 pages long. this just had way too much unnecessary information within it that it took away from the enjoyable aspects. i would rather end a book wanting for more than less. so this is just tragic.
the flashback scenes felt like a book within a book. we got SO MUCH unnecessary details about characters that we A) DO NOT KNOW and more importantly B) DO NOT CARE ABOUT.
that darius/caleb/seth scene at the end had me laughing out loud so i have to give a special shoutout to that one chapter. and even though all the bluelance crumbs were copy paste from book 8 i ate them all up and loved every second.
