Princess Anne wrote a moving letter honouring all the Team GB athletes who competed in this year’s Olympics in Tokyo.

The Princess Royal honoured the commitment and performance of every member of Team GB who went on to compete in the games, despite set backs and difficulties caused by the pandemic.

A collage of the nation’s athletes was shared to the official Royal Family Instagram account along with a snippet of the letter “congratulating Team GB and athletes”, which was posted in full on the Royal website.

The letter was written to the Chairman of the British Olympic Association, of which she is President.

Princess Anne congratulated chairman Mark England, as well as “all the athletes, coaches and trainers, and the staff in support roles, for an excellent Team GB performance in the Tokyo Olympics.”

She went onto to say that, “everyone involved in Team GB has played a significant role in a magnificent performance,” and had managed to do so despite, “the many difficulties in training and getting to the Games during the pandemic.”

Princess Anne was not the only member of the Royal Family to congratulate Team GB athletes, as the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also extended their best wishes.

In a post shared to their official Instagram account, Prince William and Kate said that the Team GB had shown “strength, passion and determination in challenging circumstances and have done the nation incredibly proud.”

The post was accompanied by photographs of team members and their medals, including divers Tom Daley and Matthew Lee, who won gold.

As well as hitting headlines for his impressive medal win, Tom Daley made waves with his poolside knitting and the stunning Tokyo Olympics cardigan he made in the process.
