A must play while in PV
Of course you want to play this along with all the others in the area, but this being the PGA mexican Open track give you a idea once played how it looks on TV in Feb championship game
Great Course, Greens Recently Cored
Great course in good condition, greens had been recently cored but didn’t affect play too much. You’ll need around 800 pesos for the tip for the caddie on top of the round price which was mandatory - but well worth it. Allow some extra time for parking / shuttle to check in - this took us over half an hour to had to push our tee time back to get some time at the range. Overall great day out.
Great Course - Excellent Caddy
This is a great course. Very challenging for the average amature golfer but still quite accessible. I am playing ilt again later this week. It was especially nice to have a great caddy with me on the round to help with course knowledge and reading the greens. He was awesome and the small additional charge was well worth it.
Excellent golf properties at Vidanta
Vacation rounds at Vidanta and played both the Greg Norman and Nayar courses (we did not stay on the Vidanta property).
Norman course was definitely the more difficult of the 2 with a more "tournament style" feel on the layout and scenery. Unfortunately they had recently punched the greens which distracted from an exceptional golf course but probably helped keep putts on the greens :)
Highly recommend grabbing a round on Golf Now as pricing for a hot deal was exceptional!
Caddy is required and absolutely necessary to be able to navigate the property acreage at Vidanta... we had Luis our first round and requested him again for our second :)
Our only "issue" was the lack of amenities on the course - restrooms, water stations, and frequency of the beverage cart for snacks and refills :)
If not staying on the Vidanta property, do plan ahead to give yourself enough time to get to the clubhouse and check in etc. ahead of tee time. If coming by taxi/uber, there is a wait to be shuttled from the arrival area through the property to the clubhouse - wait could be >15min and then a good 10min ride to the clubhouse.
Amazing course!
My family was on vacation in Puerto Vallarta and found this course, highly recommended. We loved the course itself. Scenery was beautiful, course well maintained and our caddy was excellent and tailored his help to the needs of each player (some beginners, some advanced). The course is extremely spread out, so a cart is 100% necessary, but driving the trails was a part of the experience that we enjoyed immensely.
Our complaints about this particular visit were 1) the addresses provided by GolfNow were inaccurate and literally took us to a parking lot completely outside of the resort. We had to stop multiple times to ask for directions and ended up being late for our tee time (luckily they were able to move us later). 2) GolfNow doesn't explain HOW to get to the course itself, once you're inside the resort and this led to a ton of confusion and stress trying to find where to go. You have to park at a shuttle lot and they drive you to the course on a cart, you cannot park yourself at the course. 3) It's not clear on GolfNow that you need all cash to pay the caddy (fee and tip), so you need enough pesos to pay at the end. Luckily, there's an ATM in the pro shop. Would definitely play this coures again if we were in the area!
Vidanta Vallarta
As an outside guest, extra time is needed for remote parking and a shuttle to the pro shop. A caddie was also required which was a surprise and he required cash. The pace of play was very slow and hot (this time of year), even for resort play, which took over 5-hours. I chose not to play any of the other Vidanta courses for these reasons during my two week stay in the area.
Vidanta Slow Play
For a non-resort guests, plan a lot of time for shuttles to or from outside parking. Pace of play was very slow. Also, a caddie (cash only) was required but not needed for a resort course.
Great Round
Amazing experience in PV at the Norman course today. Overall great experience, caught a hot deal for $89!!! Ed was a great caddy and highly recommend this round to others
Not worth the hassle
For any first timers looking to play this course realize it’s in it’s own city called Vidanta World. You don’t take a cab to the pro shop, you take a cab to taxi hub, then wait for a shuttle to the pro shop so plan at least an extra 20 min once you’re at the hub.
The shuttle arrives, loads up our bags, and we ride about 10 minutes into this massive resort and get checked in. Only after paying $180 do we find out that they punched the day before and the course might be cart-path-only. Our collective “WHAT?!” prompted her to radio someone to verify that we’re playing 18 holes, and only some fairways are closed.
The nice man in charge of the caddies asks us if we know where the range is and we don’t. He sends an escort to get us to the range since we’re barely on time at this point. The stupid escort tells us to follow a hotel worker after 5 turns around a maze and it turns out she’s going somewhere else completely. We end up circling back and blow through some cones since it looked like we needed to get across the river and after a couple more Uturns we find the range.
The round itself was great we played with another twosome from the east coast and had Javier as an awesome caddie. I had a couple birdies but putting through freshly punched (not side cut) greens is no fun.
Tee shots are all safe, approach shots are all safe, it’s just a resort course and I bet the pro’s shoot -20 under when here.
The breakfast burritos are made to order and show up 3 holes later and was amazing, as it should be for $18.
Post-round: No showers are available.
Tough course, great caddies
I played the course in the afternoon. Carlos our caddie was fantastic. He helped my wife who is a beginner golfer a lot. The course itself is tough. The rough was very thick and deep. The had also just recently punched the greens so putting wasn’t the greatest. I am a 15 handicap and shot a 99 on a par 73. I would definitely play here again.
I recommend getting there at least 90 minutes early as you have to take shuttles from the drop off area to get to the golf pro shop. Then it is another long golf cart ride to the course.
Course is fine, Vidanta is a joke
Booking tee times is quite literally nor possible through. Try booking a time on the lakes course (night course) after 5pm if you don't believe me.
There are plenty of better courses in PV run by adults. Just go to Vista
The back 9 was closed due to repairs. However, we did not find out about it until the day before playing. In addition, we only found out because a fellow golfer was at the course. It was worth trying out just to say you played where the Mexico Open is held.
Good course, just the wrong time of year
The course recently punched their greens. We played the front nine twice but green were still bumpy. Overall, this would be a great track if greens were in good shape and could play the full course. We got a break on price through Golf Now but they were charging full rate for less than desirable course conditions.
Fabulous Course A Must Play
A Bucket List Course, A Must Play In Mexico The Course Was In Fantastic Condition and Francisco My Caddie Was Awesome. He Made The Game So Much Easier.
