Total events and the season's start to the 2025 PGA TOUR schedule
The 2025 FedExCup season features a total of 39 events, a number that some critics believe is too many. However, it's hard to argue against the major benefits - financial and entertainment-wise - the TOUR offers their local communities. When the FedExCup Playoffs mandated that the fall series events signify the start of every new season, that change only confused golf fans. Things have shifted back where they belong with The Sentry tournament in Hawaii holding its proper place as the start of the 2025 season, running Jan. 2-5. A $20-million purse sets high stakes from the start, but the pressure is minimal considering there is no cut and every player is guaranteed some money in their pockets.
Signature Events and Eligibility
The 2025 season is highlighted by eight signature events that are designed to attract the world’s top golfers. The eight signature events of the 2025 PGA TOUR schedule include The Sentry; The AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am; the Genesis Invitational; the Arnold Palmer Invitational; RBC Heritage; Truist Championship; the Travelers Championship and the Memorial.
FedExCup standings determine eligibility of the 72 players who can tee up each of these events. There are no cuts in five of the eight events. Love it or hate it, it does ensure fans will see the top players for all four days. The Genesis Invitational, Arnold Palmer Invitational presented by Mastercard and the Memorial Tournament presented by Workday are the three tournaments that do have a 36-hole cut. Personally, it would be hard to imagine those tournaments with no cut. Lastly, to no shock to anyone, Tiger Woods have even been given a special exemption into all eight signature events.
Analyzing the Major Championship venues in 2025
Following The Masters Tournament on April 10-13, the U.S. Open, PGA Championship and The Open all move to different golf courses than 2024, returning to high-profile venues fans will recognize.
2025 PGA Championship
The PGA Championship returns to Quail Hollow from May 15-18. This will force Quail Hollow's normal TOUR stop - now sponsored by Truist - to move for a season to the Philadelphia Cricket Club for this year only.
2025 U.S. Open
The U.S. Open will be one to watch at the historic Oakmont Country Club in Oakmont, Pa., over Father's Day weekend in June. Dustin Johnson won the last U.S. Open at Oakmont, which is considered among the toughest courses in the world.
The Open
The Open Championship returns to the Dunluce Course at Royal Portrush Golf Club in Northern Ireland from July 17-20. Irishman Shane Lowrey won at Portrush in 2019. The tournament will be a homecoming for Rory McIlroy, who grew up in nearby Hollywood. McIlroy missed the cut last time, so he'll be looking for redemption.
2025 FedExCup Playoffs
The FedExCup Playoffs will end the season with three high-stakes tournaments starting in August - the FedEx St. Jude Championship, BMW Championship and the TOUR Championship.
FedEx St. Jude Championship
The FedEx St. Jude Championship is set to unfold at TPC Southwind located in Memphis, Tenn., running Aug. 7-10.
BMW Championship
The BMW Championship moves from the altitude of Colorado's Castle Pines to the Caves Valley Golf Club August 14-17 in Owings Mills, Md.
TOUR Championship
The newly renovated East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta serves as the season-ending TOUR Championship from August 21-24. The winner takes home a cool $25-million payout.
The international presence of the PGA TOUR
The PGA TOUR has grown beyond America's borders. The global influence of the 2025 lineup includes Puerto Rico, Canada, Mexico and a co-sponsored event in Scotland with the DP World Tour. Let's look a little closer at each:
Mexico Open at VidantaWorld
The Mexico Open at VidantaWorld will take place from Feb. 20-23 in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico. Set amidst picturesque coastal scenery, the Mexico Open is held at VidantaWorld, a massive golf resort on Mexico's west coast.
Genesis Scottish Open
The Genesis Scottish Open returns to North Berwick’s Renaissance Club July 10-13 in Scotland. It serves as an important precursor to The Open Championship, so you can expect a field with big names.
RBC Canadian Open
Scheduled for June 5-8 in Caledon, Ont., the RBC Canadian Open returns to its traditional spot the week before the U.S. Open. The Canadian Open is a long-established tournament that has graced the PGA Tour since 1904 and will take place on the newly renovated North Course at TPC Toronto at Osprey Valley, a 54-hole club.

Wish they'd play some new courses for once. It's always the same course rotation. It gets boring after awhile.
Agreed. I think the BMW Championship highlights that there is appetite for this and good outcomes from it, too.
