Donating to GIA

GIA is a charitable, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization with a mission to ensure the public trust in gems and jewelry by upholding the highest standards of integrity, academics, science, and professionalism.

We accept donations that support our mission and align with our commitment to ethical business practices.

To be considered, any donation must adhere to the principles of GIA’s Charitable Gifts Acceptance Policy:

  1.  Only gifts that are consistent with and further our mission will be considered.

  2. The Institute will avoid any actual, potential or perceived conflict of interest between a donor and the Institute.

  3. GIA will be transparent about the sources of and uses by the Institute of any gifts.

    1. Gifts will not be accepted where the source of the gift is unknown.

    2. Gifts will not be accepted that involve unlawful discrimination.

    3. Gifts will not be accepted which create the appearance of a bribe, kickback or other corrupt practice or otherwise be made with the intent to obtain or retain business, secure an improper advantage or induce anyone to act improperly.

    4. No GIA staff may knowingly provide or promise to provide a personal benefit to a donor as a condition of or in connection with a gift.

  4. All donors should be motivated by a philanthropic desire to support the Institute and further its mission.

  5. The following types of gifts will be accepted:

    1. Monetary donations may be made via check, credit card or other cash equivalents. GIA will not accept gifts in the form of cash or currency.

    2. Tangible personal property such as art, precious stones, gems and jewelry.

    3. Publicly traded securities (which are not restricted stock).

    4. Charitable bequests may provide for a specific monetary amount in cash equivalents, securities, articles of tangible personal property or real estate.
