Hundreds of users have complained about issues

UPDATE 12.18pm BST

Spotify has resolved the glitch that caused hundreds of subscribers to lose access to their playlists. The bug impacted Spotify Premium and free subscribers listening to music on the mobile app. Customer service representatives working for Spotify confirmed the issue had been resolved in a post on X.

The original article, published while the outage was still ongoing, follows below...

Spotify is not working for hundreds of users in the UK and United States of America, according to reports. Disgruntled users have complained the music streaming service is running much slower than usual, while others have lost access to all of their Spotify Playlists.

Music playlists created by the Spotify team seem to be working as expected, but user-generated Spotify playlists have disappeared in the mobile app, enraged users have bemoaned on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Spotify has acknowledged that it's experiencing issues with its iOS and Android app. The official support account posted on X: "We’re aware of some issues right now with the app and are checking them out!"

Several Spotify subscribers have shared screenshots with customer service representatives, showing the error in the Playlists section of the music app. Spotify has encouraged some users to log-out of the music app, restart their Android phone or iPhone, relaunch the application and log-in again.

It's unclear whether this workaround solves the glitch with Spotify playlists or not.

The problems with Spotify seem to impact both free and Spotify Premium subscribers, with complaints starting around 11am BST. Independent resource Down Detector monitors the performance of websites and online services by tracking mentions of specific issues across social media. It noted a spike in complaints from Spotify users in the UK and the USA.

The reported outage comes days after Spotify raised prices for its premium plans in the United States on Monday, the latest step by the Swedish music-streaming service in its push to increase margins. The Swedish firm raised prices of its individual Premium plan to $11.99 from $10.99 per month, Spotify Duo subscription from $14.99 to $16.99, and its Family plan to $19.99 from $16.99.

The United States remains the largest market for Spotify by revenue, making this latest decision a seismic one. So far, the company has not announced plans to increase prices in the UK and Europe.

Spotify has been trying to boost its margins in recent months by lowering marketing spending and through layoffs, after relying on promotions and hefty investments to drive user growth.

"We're increasing the price of Premium Individual so that we can continue to invest in and innovate on our product offerings and features," Spotify will inform subscribers in an email, which it plans to send to its subscribers in the USA over the next month.
