Conor McGregor and Michael Chandler were scheduled to take part in a press conference on Monday.

Conor McGregor has raised fears that his scheduled fight with Michael Chandler will be postponed after the cancellation of his press conference on Monday.

The two-weight UFC champion has not fought since 2021 and has talked up a contest with Chandler for over a year.

A date has finally been set for the two former Ultimate Fighter rivals to step into the octagon on June 29 in Las Vegas.

Both were scheduled to speak to the media on Monday evening in Dublin at a press conference.

However, the event was cancelled in the early hours of the morning as the UFC issued an apology to fans.

McGregor has now broken his silence on the cancelled press conference, although he remained tight-lipped on the real reason it didn't go ahead.

"In consultation with the UFC, todays press conference was cancelled due to a series of obstacles outside of our control," he said.

"I apologise to my Irish fans, and fans around the world, for the inconvenience and appreciate all your passion and support.

"I can’t wait to put on the greatest all-time show in the Octagon."

McGregor's indication that his fight against Chandler is still going ahead didn't convince some of his followers though.

The post attracted plenty of attention online with many people wondering whether the cancelled press conference was a sign that the fight could be off.

One person asked:" Is it not happening at all?"

A third message read: "We know you're gonna dodge the fight with Chandler."

One other replied: "What does that mean?"

MMA star Demetrious Johnson believes Chandler is wasting his time waiting to fight McGregor.

“We’ll see. At the end of the day, that’s the s***** thing about this,” Johnson said on The MMA Hour.

“If I was Chandler ... as an athlete, you make your money when you compete. I can’t remember the last time Chandler competed. I don’t know if it was against Charles [Oliveira] or Dustin [Poirier] or Justin [Gaethje].

"I just don’t know. It doesn’t ring a bell in my mind. So for me, he’s been sitting on the sidelines to wait and fight Conor McGregor, this might never happen."
