A Sunday-night Facebook post signed by billionaire businessman Dan Gilbert announcedย that his organization "screwed up badly" whenย posting a downtown sign that said, "See Detroit like we do."ย

Quicken Loans founder and chairman Dan Gilbert speaks during a press conference at One Detroit Center in downtown Detroit on Tuesday March 31, 2015 while announcing the purchase of the downtown skyscraper.

Filling windows along the ground level of theย Vinton Building, the sign with theย Bedrock real-estate company's insignia was a photograph of nearly allย white people. U.S. Census dataย in 2010 showed the cityย to beย more than 82% black.ย

"Although not intended to create the kind of feelings it did, the slogan/statement we used on these graphics was tone deaf, in poor tasteย and does not reflect a single value of philosophy that we stand for at Bedrock Development or in our entire Family of companies," according to theย post.ย

Gilbert said in the post that the "dumb" campaign sloganย has been "killed." He also posted images of additional panelsย that "reflects the population of the city that we do business in and also reflects the diversity among our own workforce in Detroit," according to the post.

Gilbert owns dozens buildings in downtown Detroit. The Vinton Building is at the corner of Woodward and Congress.

The first panel was installed Friday, but Gilbert said it was removed Saturday as soon as they realized that the "partial installation would completely distort our vision for the finished project."

The panel's photo, featuring a Detroit Marching Band trumpeterย in a crowd, was taken by a Bedrock staff photographer at the 2016 Public Matter event featuring Lupe Fiascoย atย The Belt in downtown Detroit, according to a Bedrock spokeswoman.ย

A number of social media posts over the weekend expressed frustration with the installation, which occurred on the weekend of the 50th anniversary of the 1967 disturbance in Detroit.ย
