Say what you will about Stellar Blade, but SHIFT UP really knows its audience. Stellar Blade has gotten a new update that is more or less Dead or Alive: Eve Edition.
No volleyball, sadly, but the update has added a summer vacation makeover for the Great Desert Oasis that will be there for a limited time. Stellar Blade as service, I guess. Eve can lounge there with a new “sunbed” interaction, new music and you will probably not be surprised to learn Eve has expanded her swimsuit collection.
There are two new outfits that you do not need to earn, only buy from Clyde’s Shop at the Oasis. They’re stylized to be more involved and futuristic than the other swimsuit-esque outfits she has and fans are well, big fans.
Despite posting a lot of images and posts online, this update actually does not come with a photo mode, which SHIFT UP says has to wait a little bit longer, so players are just making do with the camera angles and screen captures they have to work with.
I have seen one complaint from fans about this, that the area in the game is not permanent which seems odd for a single player game that does not have any live components at all. It’s a little weird I guess, but not a big deal, and you get to keep the swimsuits permanently. Again, I think one of the most impressive things about Stellar Blade is that it could have made millions selling outfits, clearly, but has allowed every single one to be earned in-game, an industry rarity.
It’s a minor update but a pretty funny one, I’ll admit. There are more actual content drops planned like the game added with the Boss Rush, and due to its success as a new IP from a studio untested in the AAA space, there are talks of an expansion and sequel. There are also supposed to be “collaboration” events down the road which, you guessed it, will involve more outfits.
Stellar Blade is currently my second favorite game of the year after The First Descendant, which I have sunk almost 200 hours into. But I had 60 or so into two playthroughs of Stellar Blade, accurately described as one of the best 8/10 games in recent memory. Combat was great, and very stupid outfit drama aside, Eve has arrived as a pretty iconic protagonist in her first outing, alongside 2B and Bayonetta, I’d argue.
I probably am not going to bother logging in just for this, and will wait until some actual content is added, but it’s a fun surprise thing that is extremely on brand from SHIFT UP, which I mean at this point, just let them do their thing.
