It’s only been two years since Christina Aguilera released her most recent album, the self-titled Aguilera. That set sadly failed to make much of a commercial impact, so to some casual listeners, it may feel like it’s been forever since they last heard from the pop superstar. Years removed from her last successful single, the singer manages to score a minor hit this week with an unexpected and largely-overlooked collaboration.
Aguilera debuts on the TikTok Billboard Top 50 this week, earning her first appearance on Billboard’s ranking of the most-used and most popular tracks on TikTok. She lands at No. 28 this frame with “Did Somebody Say HipOpera,” which is not a typical single.
“Did Somebody Say HipOpera” teams Aguilera with rapper Latto for a song that’s all about…food. The duet serves not as a promotional tune for someone’s album, but rather as an advertisement. The collaboration, which was released in 2023, is actually a partnership with the U.K.-based food delivery service Just Eat.
Aguilera appears on Billboard’s TikTok-only roster for the first time this week, but Latto has been here before. In fact, she doubles up on the tally as she scores her second career win on the tally while her first is still going.
In addition to her Aguilera collaboration, Latto also appears at No. 16 on the TikTok Billboard Top 50, reaching a new career high point with her own solo single. “Brokey” debuted on the list last week, and now it jumps from No. 29 to sixteenth place.
“Did Somebody Say HipOpera” ranks as the fourth-loftiest debuts on the TikTok chart this week. Aguilera and Latto land behind Olivia Rodrigo, the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, and even Justin Bieber, who sits just a few rungs higher.
Five additional tracks debut behind both female powerhouses. That collection of singles includes the latest from The Marias and even Bad Bunny, as well as a number of artists who have largely found success only on TikTok.
While she’s one of the most famous and respected names in pop music, Aguilera’s heyday took place long before TikTok was a thing. Billboard’s chart that’s connected to the social media platform was only introduced a little more than a year ago, which explains, in part, why she’s never reached this list.
