For more than 30 years now, Alice in Chains has claimed a massive and dedicated fan base. The rock band is not one of the most prolific names in the genre, but when they do deliver music, it stands the test of time.
This week, Alice in Chains earns a new hit on a Billboard chart–one they’ve never reached before. The group didn’t release anything new, though. Instead, one of their oldest songs finally arrives on a list, as it remains incredibly popular.
“Man in the Box” hits the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart this frame. The tune opens at No. 22 on Billboard’s list of the most-streamed hard rock-only tunes in the country.
Alice in Chains earns their first placement on the Hard Rock Streaming Songs chart with their new arrival. While they may be favorites in the genre, they have not seen any of their tunes rack up enough plays in a single tracking frame since the institution of the tally–which came long after their heyday–to place on the list.
“Man in the Box” is the only debut on the chart this week, though several time-tested songs find their way back to the tally just below Alice in Chains. Three Days Grace’s “Animal I Have Become” (No. 23), Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun” (No. 24), and Queen and David Bowie’s “Under Pressure” (No. 25) all return for another spin on the roster.
Alice in Chains released “Man in the Box” in 1991, at the very outset of their career. The tune became their first proper hit on a number of Billboard charts, and it helped propel them to stardom in the rock world. In the years since, it has gone on to earn a triple platinum certification, and it remains one of the band’s most recognizable songs.
