There’s nothing wrong with using your points for tours, car rentals or paid airfares. Remember, there’s no one right way to use your points.

But, there are plenty of valuable redemption options in partner transfers—such as upgrading a Hyatt room stay to a suite for 6,000 points per night or flying to Europe in Delta business class for 50,000 Virgin Atlantic Flying Club miles.

Whether you’re topping off your account or transferring all of the points needed to book an incredible award, here’s what you need to know about transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards points to airlines and hotels.

Earn an extra 1.5% on everything you buy (on up to $20,000 spent in the first year) — worth up to $300 cash back. That's 6.5% on travel purchased through Chase Travel℠, 4.5% on dining and drugstores, and 3% on all other purchases.
Credit Score ranges are based on FICO® credit scoring. This is just one scoring method and a credit card issuer may use another method when considering your application. These are provided as guidelines only and approval is not guaranteed.

Which Chase Cards Have Transferable Points?

Before we get into how to transfer points, let’s make sure that it’s clear who can transfer points to airline and hotel partners.

Plenty of Chase credit cards earn points, but not all Chase Ultimate Rewards points are created equal. There are just three Chase cards that earn Chase Ultimate Rewards points that can be transferred to airlines and hotel partners:

Chase also issues four other credit cards that earn points, but these points can’t be transferred to travel partners:

The good news is that points can be transferred between some Ultimate Rewards cards. So, if you have both a Chase Freedom Flex and a Chase Sapphire Reserve, you can combine points earned on the Chase Freedom Flex to the Chase Sapphire Reserve. Then, those points can be transferred to travel partners.

If you’re interested in using this method, we cover the process in the “Combining Points Between Chase Cards” section below.

Chase Ultimate Rewards® Transfer Partners

Currently, Chase Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to the following airline and hotel partners:

  • Aer Lingus AerClub
  • Air Canada Aeroplan
  • Air France/KLM Flying Blue
  • British Airways Executive Club
  • Emirates Skywards
  • Iberia Plus
  • IHG Rewards Club
  • JetBlue TrueBlue
  • Marriott Bonvoy
  • Singapore Airlines KrisFlyer
  • Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards
  • United MileagePlus
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club
  • World of Hyatt

Points transfer to all of these partners at a 1:1 transfer ratio. Cardholders must transfer a minimum of 1,000 points and must transfer points in increments of 1,000 points.

These Chase Ultimate Rewards partners range from excellent value (World of Hyatt, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club) to poor value (IHG Rewards, Marriott Bonvoy) with plenty of programs in the middle. That’s why it’s important to ask yourself the following question:

Should You Transfer Chase Points or Use the Chase Travel Portal?

There’s an important aspect to consider before you transfer points: What is the value that you’re getting from redeeming those points? Because it’s possible that you can get more value from using those points through the Chase Travel portal.

Chase Sapphire Reserve cardholders can redeem points through the Chase Travel portal at a value of 1.5 cents per point. Chase Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cardholders get a redemption rate of 1.25 cents per point.

If the award redemption you’re considering booking with the transfer partner is higher than these rates, it makes sense to transfer your Chase points. That can include using Hyatt points for award stays or a business class flight to Europe on United.

If the value is under 1.25 or 1.5 cents per point, you should book through the Chase Travel portal instead.

When To Use the Chase Travel Portal Instead

For example, take JetBlue’s TrueBlue points. For better or worse, JetBlue points provide a fairly fixed value. Instead of having an award chart, the number of points required for a JetBlue award flight varies based on the cash price of the flight.

That means you’re never going to get a bad deal from JetBlue points. However, Chase cardholders will probably get better value from using their Chase Ultimate Rewards points through the Chase Travel portal instead of transferring points to JetBlue.

Let’s take a round-trip on JetBlue’s new route between Newark (EWR) and Los Angeles (LAX) in March 2023. If you searched for this trip on JetBlue’s website, you’d find it as cheap as 25,800 points plus $11.20 in taxes and fees or $307.20 including taxes and fees.

That’s not bad for a round-trip flight from coast-to-coast. However, if you have the Ink Business Unlimited® Credit Card, you can book the same exact flights through the Chase Travel portal for just 20,534 Chase Ultimate Rewards points round-trip.

JetBlue points are generally worth around 1.3-1.4 cents per point, but it’s possible for JetBlue points to be worth less than that. In this case, the JetBlue redemption is only 1.2 cents per point. That means, in this case, it also makes sense for Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card cardholders to book through the Chase Travel portal rather than transferring points.

Redeeming points at 1.25 cents per point, cardholders of the Sapphire Preferred or the Ink Business Preferred only have to pay 24,425 Chase Ultimate Rewards points round-trip through the Chase Travel portal. That’s less than the 25,800 JetBlue TrueBlue points required to book the award flights.

Plus, as it’s considered a cash flight when you book through the Chase Travel portal, you’ll earn JetBlue TrueBlue points from the flight. That makes the option to book through the portal even more valuable.

Southwest Airlines Rapid Rewards points are also fixed value, generally around 1.5 cents a point. Since that’s the same rate as buying through the Chase portal if you have the Sapphire Reserve (and earning points for your flight) it’s definitely worth the time to check which option makes more sense for you. However, you can only redeem Chase Ultimate Rewards points for Southwest flights by phone.

Bottom Line

One of the great aspects of Chase Ultimate Rewards points is the flexibility you have to use your points. As a baseline, Chase Sapphire Reserve® cardholders get 1.5 cents per point and Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card cardholders get 1.25 cents per point through the Chase Travel portal. However, the most valuable Chase Ultimate Rewards redemptions are accomplished by transferring points to Chase Ultimate Rewards® travel partners. As you can see, the process to transfer points is pretty straightforward, now that you know where and how to do it.
